I would not say "common."  Only three characters in all of Thedas history are known to wear that type of headgear.  Two of them are legends and borderline gods.  It is not common by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm... not sure when I ever said anything was "common"..?

Ahh, apologies, I quoted the wrong post.  I meant to quote Shaiapuddi's.

As for the third figure, I imagine many of us did in fact have a third soul there, Urthemiel

The third person looks like a child to me. Maybe Keiran, and the idol represents the last 3 remaining god-like entities who are uncorrupted that remain on Thedas.

One big ol' god idol really.

Mythal/Flemeth
Fen'Harel/solas
And ....?

Where does anyone see a third person in that idol? I only see two.

I don't see a third person. But I'm also dumb. Can someone circle it for me or something?

I changed it to black and white so hopefully the faces are a bit easier to see. I circled the 3 figures in white for you.  :)

...well, I'll be damned. It may be coincidence, but if it's not....yeah, magnificent bastards indeed.

Actually, its very common.  NPCs all over Skyhold are wearing versions of it.

Thanks, Aegis.  I never would have seen the third one.

Adding that, it almost looks like two mourners, wailing over the death of the first figure.

Thank you! :) We're sure that that's a face though, and not just something that sort of looks like one given that humans are trained to look for face-like features? I mean, it doesn't have a body, at least not that I can make out.

Interesting thought:

In the ending cut scene, Solas says "MY people need me." Not "OUR people need me."

No, he Says The People, they need me.  "The People" is how the elves (specifically the Dalish, though it isn't out of the question for a city elf to use the term) refer to themselves.

To me it looks like it has a bit of a torso and a stubby arm, plus the face looks similar to the main one with the tiara thing on its head. I do get what you are saying though about humans being trained to look for face like features in things. I strongly believe there are 3 figures in the idol, I wish there was a better angle of it.

It's more interesting he says "The People need ME" instead of "US".

Interesting find OP.

...and one of the previous uses in DA lore is sure a heavy hint - David Gaider must be chuckling...

Merrill: "An'darana ti'shan, Asha'bellanar."

Flemeth: "One of the People, I see. So young and bright. Do you know who I am, beyond that title?"

Merrill: "I know only a little."

Flemeth: "Then stand! The People bend their knee too quickly."

Well, I imagine a lot of the DA2 expansion that never was bled onto Inquisition, so it's possible. And I do think Flemeths identity was planed from the start. I mean, looking back, every elven ruin had a statue of a woman with dragon wings, and theres a lot of those on the temple of Mythal.

Regarding the third figure on the statue.  Notice how it seems to be almost flowing out the back of the Mythal shape.  If you watch the scene with Solas and Flemeth, you should note that a good portion of the mist flows around Solas... but the rest makes a beeline through the eluvian.  I honestly don't know the significance but there it is.

EDIT: Did you all notice how the eluvian is flanked by statues of the Dread Wolf and Mythal?  Did you notice that the statue of Fen'harel has Vallaslin covering its face?

EDIT2: Or is that wolf statue a Falon'din statue?  I get them mixed up.

So...this is the indoctrination theory all over again with Shepard, right?

b/c if they were magnificent bastards so much, how come everything ELSE feels so light?

or are we seeing something we hope is true to make up for all the lack that exists?

/call me a hater all ya want, just asking.

I've read the Black CIty threads, pondered all the hypotheses, and I confess I still don't see what's the big deal about the pictures.  Yes, there's a person clutching another person in the idol, but they don't look anything like how Solas+Flemeth look.  Maybe I am being too concrete here, but besides the matter of scaling, there's just no resemblance.  Am I missing something that others are connecting?

If you are, so am I.
I don't see anything in common. I can think on many many cases where someone in pain is clutching onto someone else who is burrying his or her face.
It doesn't need to be Solas and Flemeth at all. I personally think this is more wishthinking then actual connection. However I might be wrong. This is not something we'll learn any time soon.
