I suppose this isn't the right time to note humans tend to see patterns where there are none, right?

Yet, this is not something stupid like Jesus on toast.

Oh I'm sure it was. Solas being revealed as the Dread Wolf in the credits is a hint enough, but in some of the earlier gameplay demos, they loaded saves, and you could see the save screen. There were 2 zones we'd never heard of: The Frostback Pass, and the Nahashin Marshes. The Frostback Pass was probably either renamed "The Frostbacks" (Haven) or became the The Frostback Basin.

The Nahashin Marshes, however, is more interesting. If you pay attention, you'll note that the first eluvian area in Trespasser with the elvhen buildings is almost certainly the Nahashin Marshes, since the bow you find in the Dread Wolf puzzle box says it was lost in a box in the Nahashin Marshes. In addition to this, there is that concept art of something that never made it into the game, and yet they refused to explain what it depicted.

That looks like a vague idea of the Elvhen Citadel or one of the surrounding buildings to me. The general landscape matches, and there are broken bridges. So with that in mind (but not only that), I think Trespasser was originally going to be part of the base game, but was cut pretty early since they could never finish it in time. That may also be one of the reasons the original game's ending was a bit anti-climactic - It wasn't supposed to end there, not really.

Random thoughts and guesses! ^_^

Isn't that the temple of mythal, though? Or a concept that was tweaked into mythal in the end? Because I remember this from back in the day when DAI was only being teased, liked it and looked for it in the game. Seems like during the Arbor Wilds mission, when the group is running from Cory, they cross a bridge that goes over a waterfall. And I thiiiiiink you can just about make out a silhouette similar to that picture right as you are entering the temple portion of the mission (right before Morrigans "well of sorrows? Shucks I dunno" shrug). Could be wrong, of course, when it comes to these things I usually am.

Yes, that's Temple of Mythal exterior concept art. You can see the similarities on the bridge with Cory.

I think I see it... its not like Bioware to just throw something in that's vital to a plot without thinking about the long-term possibilities.

I thought of that too, but I figure it has more similarities with the Trespasser location than the Temple of Mythal. I could be wrong, but I still think the new area is the Nahashin Marshes regardless of the concept art.

Are you sure? Last I heard they wouldn't tell us what it was. I'm also not seeing the similarity with the bridge, sorry.

I get what you are trying to say, Banshee, I really do (or at least I hope I do). But after some research, I can only tell you what I found is written about the Nahashin Marshes in World of Thedas Vol. 1, pg. 15 (emphasis mine):

"Thedas is a vibrant, diverse land of arid desolation, verdant forests and frigid mountain ranges. Often climate and geography vary wildly over short distances. The volatile, volcanic marshland of the Nahashin Marshes in western Orlais, for instance, could not bear less similarity to the fertile Heartlands some three days east."

So far as I know (I do not actually own either WoT books, but ran the search through Google Books and this is the only hit I got), the volume does not contain any further references to Nahashin Marshes (it did, however, make me brush up on some of my junior year vocab).

Maybe the Nahashin Marshes (which, now that I have learned more about what they could be like, I actually want to see pretty badly) were something that was a part of the concept for DA:I as a while and ultimately, due to reasons was ultimately cut (my money is on the fact that an additional region would make the old gen consoles cry and bleed, but then again, I blame the decision to make DA:I a cross-gen release for everything that is wrong with this world, from world hunger, through war crimes to pugs).

All (stupid) jokes aside, what I am trying to say is that the description I found and posted above does not really seem to sit with what that concept image depicts, or any of the Trespasser locations, to me.

Out of curiosity - as I did not follow the development of DA:I all that closely, I was not aware of the fact that Nahashin Marshes were ever mentioned in connection therewith. When was this?

They were doing a gameplay demo and went to the Load screen. There was a save there. It's weird though, since the description of the bow does say it's supposed to be there. Not that those descriptions are infallible, but usually they're mostly true (for instance, it is found in a box like it says). And it sounded elven to me. Oh well. I still think Trespasser may have been part of the base game very early on.

I sincerely hope you're wrong 'cause that wouldn't be good.

Took me a long while to see what the hell you're talking about.

I can see the resemblance, but it still seems like a bit of a stretch.

...A stretch?
