We know that after months of anticipation, getting that new game home only to encounter a problem is frustrating and that you’re looking for a solution as quick as possible. Bear in mind that the fastest solution may *not* be to just start a new thread here in this forum. Please review the following guidelines for posting in the Mass Effect PC Technical Support forum.
First, confirm that your system meets or exceeds the published minimum system specs:
1. OS: Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7
2. CPU: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
3. RAM: 1 GB for Windows XP or 2 GB for Windows Vista / Windows 7
4. VIDEO: nVidia GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. (nVidia GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 9300 and ATI Radeon HD3200 and HD 4350 are below min-spec)
5. AUDIO: DirectX 9.0c compatible
6. DirectX 9.0c August 2008
Second, take a look through the forums (there’s an awesome search feature) to see if someone is reporting the same issue as the one you’ve encountered. Whether the problem is “the same” is sometimes difficult to determine, but do your best (note that it’s possible for the same symptom to have multiple causes). If you do find a thread that’s reporting the same symptom with (as near as you can determine) the same cause, please consider replying to that thread instead of starting a new one. Be careful not to derail the thread with a different problem, though.
Third, if you don’t find a similar problem already reported, consider starting a new thread. Note that most of this information can be obtained by using the game’s Configuration Utility which is available by pressing the [Configure] button from the game’s launcher:
1. Which Game Are You Playing
a. Since this forum is for both ME1 (PC) and ME2 (PC) it’s important to identify which product is experiencing the problem.
b. Media: physical disk or digital download (and which vendor)
c. Configuration Utility | Game Tab
- Version Information: MassEffect2.EXE
a. Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
- Processor / Clock Speed / RAM
- Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version (just saying "latest drivers" doesn't help)
- Sound Adapter / Driver Version
- Operating System (& service pack if applicable)
- Direct X Version
a. When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic questions. Who? What? When? Where?
Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.
b. What? What is the nature problem that you’re seeing?
c. When? When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only
after so many hours of play?
d. Where? Where does the problem occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does
it occur everywhere?
e. Why? As much as possible, can you isolate the problem to a specific set of steps?
If you follow these guidelines, and provide the requested information when posting, it will increase the likelihood that someone will be able to help you diagnose the problem and find a solution.
Please report issues, after checking these steps, in new threads.
Thanks!
