Now commonsense may also dictate here that all anyone has to do that feels that there's an issue with the night enchanter is to give themselves and not use those abilities. But just like the people who are complaining about being over level can't seem to stop themselves from doing side missions in order to bypass that issue they are going to be people who can't help but be irritated by being forced into gimping themselves.

Try playing a KE as a battlemage without taking Fade Shield. It is simply impossible in nightmare (impossible in the sense that it has practically no sense at all). You play a normal mage at that point. Actually before Bioware made the nerf to Spirit Blade it was still somewhat viable (you could still go in melee in lapses to build up combos), now it has no point.

You do crap damage if you go in melee and use SB (to what point? you don't start combos and you do less damage in the majority of cases than using range spells) and you probably die very fast with the aggro. Why even care?

Simply put if you want to play an hybrid mage-warrior you must have a way to mitigate damage in melee (or a way to do the same in other ways, as CC or similar; and in fact another strategy you could use without requiring Fade Shield, Mind Blast+, is also bugged so even that is out of the question, sadly) and that's fine. However Fade Shield goes too far and turns you totally immortal by itself, requiring nothing else.

So you have really no choice here. Or you play KE and you get immortal or you skip the spec. As of now Fade Shield is a necessity to play the hybrid. If you take KE and you just stand far from melee 99% of the time being an half-assed nuker (because you dont' have the mana regen of a Rift Mage or even the skill selection of a non-spec class) then what's the point on even taking the spec? Conversely if you take Fade Shield you just become immortal no matter how much you can suck at playing the spec and nightmare becomes easier than easy difficulty (already the game is not difficult in itself, if you take KE you can simply create a macro and watch the movie).

Choice? What choice? There's no choice here.

There is a choice. Don't play the class. There's always a choice.

So let me understand: if you want to play a battlemage the choice is.... to not play it. And here I thought we were talking about real choices...

If you want to play a Battlemage go Knight Enchanter. Your post is making it sound like there's no choice. Either you play KE or you don't That's it. That's the choice.

Then you missed completely the point. If you play KE you become immortal (if you skip Fade Shield to avoid this then it's like you didn't take KE to begin with). So the supposed "choice" is not a choice at all since if you take KE you are forced on making gameplay obsolete hence turning that seemingly existent choice null.

It would be like insisting you have a real choice between dying or living forever in eternal and insufferable pain and misery. The choice is only on paper but in practice there's really none.

Haha, I knew the music wasn't going to be for everyone. I like it, though! Thanks for watching anyway.

Nice usage of fade step, I sure can't do those neat circle moves with a keyboard on PC.

Anyway about the immortality issue of KE, isn't the problem with survivability in this game based on how much extra life Barrier gives you compared to, well everything else.

Ignoring dmg redux, your character's HP pool is around 1k, guard is max 25%. While barrrier gives you >3k on top of that.

The barrier generation on KE is like 30% life-steal on hit, but with a buffer of 300% your HP.

If the balance between HP, Guard and Barrier was more equal, then wouldn't it be a different picture. What if you had stats like this:

- 1k HP

- 1k Guard

- 1k Barrier

A warrior tank with full guard and barrier would then be at least 3 times beefier than a solo rogue.

A KE would have survivability roughly the same as a babysat DW rougue with barrier. Or a 2H warrior that has some Guard building skills, like Bull Rush (which is awsome CC+mobility+dmg with low CD btw)

And has anybody tried going for a build with KE, skipping Fade Barrier, and instead going that uses the 50% dmg redux from the Ice tree, together with IceWall or Blizzard? And maybe only using regular Barrier, and Matrix Bubble + Fade Cloak for damage avoidance.

That looks very "battle mage" on paper.

I love doing circles with Fade Step! Also, yeah I can see your idea working.

No problem! Have fun being the most awesome class in the game :3
