Should I let party members' specializations decide my own?

I play a mage and was interested in the Rift Mage specilization. However, I bring Solas everywhere because I find his dialogue interesting. I'm at around the level 11 mark, and I've been playing with Solas/Cole/Blackwall so far. If I were to go rift mage, would that lead to too much cross over and lack of diversity because of Solas? I was thinking that the AI isn't overly great, so if I am not in constant control of him he probably wouldn't utilize his skills proberly. Would it be better to roll necro or ranged KE for diversity's sake, and just pop over to Solas for rift like things? I was thinking I could compensate by specing in different elemental trees, but I'm not sure if intentionally avoiding potential for the sake of diversity is the best choice. Maybe I'll just give up and go necro. ;-;

I just wanted to hear some thoughts on doubling up specializations with party members and if it should be avoided, or if it isn't a big deal.

It depends on you.

Do you play for the story, and for some mild fun? Then just do what you want. Double Rift mage are solid stuff anyways. Both gain near infinite mana, so they can cast spells as much as wanted.

On the other hand, if you want to meta game a bit, and be as efficient as possible, then Necro + Rift Mage is very good. Even so, more times than not it's not necessary to have a necromancer with you. Rift Mage biggest benefit to a mage is not the CC -- it's the mana regen.
