I grow to have Solas, Vivienne and Cassandra with my dual-dialing rogue, perhaps I might exchange Vivienne by Dorian, but 2 mages with the right skills combined just rock. Causes me to have no bow-fighter with me though, though I love Varric and I'm quite curious about Sera's way to comment on stuff :D But Sera's the weekest option, so.. yeah, no.

Solas is the strongest mage though, so he's a must (I expected Vivienne to be, but well). Unfortunately, Bull or Blackwall are weaker as Cassandra too, so it's often her who's with me. It's kinda lame to give Bull so low stats compared to Cassandra, seeker training or not. I bet he'd have the way more fun comments, but he's simply dying too fast. I like Blackwall, but too often in the beginning of the game Cassandra is rather helpful to have with you in convo's too. Cole is out of the pic completely, as he's somewhat odd and two frontline rogues are one too many.

Who do you consider best? Who you like most, also for the fun convo's in the back? Vivienne and Solas rub quite a lot, and I have to admit, I adore Solas dry humor that's not shown anywhere else in the game but with Viv^^ Anyone you think is a must in certain quests, just because their reaction is so well worth seeing? Like, I heard Bull's super fun if going with the mages, being drugged by the red lyrium.

I rotated people out fairly often, but my favorite party was Cassandra, Varric, and Solas - the original 3! They were my favorite companions, which worked out because I got one of each class. Cassandra and Varric particularly have good banter - I love all their interactions.

Varric was almost always in my party, because I didn't recruit Sera and I wasn't the biggest fan of Cole. I probably rotated out the mages the most, because I liked all 3 of them, but I used Blackwall and Bull regularly as well. Still, when it came to major story missions, I usually stuck with Cass, Varric, and Solas.

I played a S&S Templar, so Cassandra was somewhat redundant, but I didn't mind.

Mage inquisitor

Blackwall as tank

Bull as dps

Solas as spirit/frost mage, alternatively Dorian with lightning spec

Got me through everything on hard without much reloading. The Bull/Solas banters are great, too.

I never stick with one party throughout this or any game.

That said, I like dragging Cole places because he's a perfect funny insightful spirit corpse man-child and I love him.

The problem is i don't know how to trigger banters and i only get one every 2 hours or so. So if i switch them out too much i can't possibly have heard them all by the end of the game. So i stuck to one static party for this playthrough and will focus on the other characters in the next.

Oh Bull and Solas, too, huh? Will give it a try :)

I don't know, I made this experience in DAO already, that I grow used to a certain strategy to work perfectly to me depending on the ppl I have with my char. When I change the party, the synergy isn't the same and I get into trouble in some fights :P Like.. I didn the finale of DAO serval times for the different endings, with different party members, and while my first was really smooth, I had such issues depending on the party. In DAI it's a bit the same, as suprisingly, Cassadra has best stats in attack as in consitution, which makes her the best tank as dps. And the combination of Ice and Storm magic is just really great.

I think it's more a matter of the actual party, tbh. I didn't have much banter going on between Cassandra, Varric and Solas. But Viv and Solas are nagging another nearly constantly, when ever there's a calm minute. As they are just so contrary.

There's plenty of banter between Cassandra, Sera, and Dorian and much of it is funny.

I do rotations.

But my favourite composition tends to be:

2 Tanks - Me + Cass/Blackwall
1 Ranged - Sera mostly
1 Mage - Dorian, mostly because of walking bomb, cause that **** is hillarious.

(I actually prefer Vivi, but since she is effing OP she breaks the game for me)

I think Solas, Cole and Cassandra... the three of them give me the fuzzies, they're all so nice and sweet to each other.

I really like having Solas, Cole, and Cassandra in a party together. Everyone is nice and polite to each other and I get to hear interesting(/cute) conversations while I'm wandering around. :)

Sometimes I swap out Cassandra for other people, though--I have very mixed feelings about a Solas + Cole + Sera combo, because it's an interesting party but it makes me feel terrible most of the time. It's like a family roadtrip gone horribly wrong, especially in the "elfy" places.

...Actually, I guess my favourite party is any party that has Solas and Cole in it, really. Not that Cassandra isn't interesting, but the characters are more likely to talk about things I'm interested in with Solas and/or Cole there.

Me too, they're my boys and must always be together. I have three PT's with a different warrior for each. I don't feel right without those two around..

Depends on my mood but I've been digging Dorian, Sera and Bull lately.

I also like the combination of Blackwall, Sera and Solas.

Solas, Cole and Cassandra when I'm feeling introspective.

Dorian, Solas and Viv when I'm feeling awesome. (I'm a mage.)

I take Varric anyplace dwarven or underground because he hates it and it makes me laugh.  I always take Solas to the Emerald Graves.

I switch it up a LOT and that's saying something because I never used half of my companions out of the last two games.

I seem to get a run of banter every time I turn in a quest, so that might be an idea.
As for my team, first play through was pretty much Cass, Varric and Solas with my Mage Qunari. Team racial diversity. Only changed people out to do people's personal quests. Varric was always in my party as I can't stand Sarra's voice and have never been a fan of Cole and I always needed a rouge. Unless I was hunting dragons then Varric got replaced with Bull. He's always just so happy to be fighting Dragons.

Haha, I saw a video clip showing Bull getting drunk and swooning over a dragon, so I bet that's fun. Makes me wonder though, if things I do in the quest, in the party, only affect those I take with me or regardlessly? When choosing between mages and templers, everyone seemed to have a point of opinion here. But I couldn't really see that on the others.

You get drunk Bull whether he is in the party or not. :)

I'm on constant rotation depending on situation.  The only constants for me is Dorian + one additional ranged class to counter that I'm a dual blade rogue.  For day to day knocking around I roll with either Blackwall or Cassandra as tank and then either Sera or Vivienne or Solas as the additional ranged class.  It really depends on who needs what in that particular area since it's insta-approval rating if you have them along for their personal quests.  Cole I only take if I think there is a lot of dead space between chat timer interrupts for his convos with other companions.

Rogue Inquisitor, Dorian, and Cassandra.

Last spot tends to rotate between Vivienne, Bull, Sera, and Cole.

You mean it affects the personal relationship for the better? I heard that before too, but couldn't really notice it yet.

My go-to party across all characters is Cass (my #1 sis), Dorian (because Dorian!) set to follow Cass and Sera specced in daggers.

My newest playthrough is as a sword and board warrior so I will probably drop Cass and pick up Varric once we get to Skyhold.

Solas and Dorian make fireworks, really. I can't see much of the battle when they are at it, and Cass to keep enemies off em. I'm not sure how well Sera's "tanking" abilities work, but I might give that a go one day...
I'd like to head out with Dorian Cole and Sera, but I feel I'd have to babysit.

I use everyone usually but Sera is always in my party (dat tempest skill). The companion i don't use much is Blackwall because i actually prefer Cass as the tank of my party.

But my favs are Sera/Cass/Dorian or Sera/Cass/Viv. Sometimes Dorian and Bull. :D
