Hello fellow Inquisitors as the title suggests I'm looking for some help with picking a spec for my warrior. I wanted to tank using a 2 handed warrior and I hear the Champion is the way to go but it seems to me that it is a bit over the top on the defensive side so I was wondering can a 2 handed Templar tank properly alone on hard difficulty?

The party I have in mind will be any of the 3 mages depending on what I will face (I tend to spec each of the mages in a different element so I can have one speced right for all scenarios) Cole,Sera till mid game and then I'll switch Sera for Varric once I get high enough party Crit chance.

Any insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

If you can make it to Skyhold as a 2 handed tank, then you can pick whatever specialization you want after Skyhold and be fine.

Champion will make tanking relatively trivial because walking fortress, then to the death makes boss fights trivial if you're willing to run in circles while your ranged companions kill the boss.

Templar you get to do huge damage every now and then with wrath of heaven+spell purge. Otherwise your gameplay is the same as pre-specialization, you just do a bit more damage to demons.

Reaver you do a lot more damage, but each dragon rage costs you health (5% IIRC, since it's currently bugged/incorrect tooltip). But if you get heal on kill and heal/guard on attack gear/masterworks then it's very manageable. With the S&S passives turn the bolt and turn the blade you can still tank a lotta damage esp with tier 3 armors, and at the same time probably do the most damage in your party (AI isn't so good at maximizing DPS).

TL;DR: Do whatever you want for specializations because the game isn't that hard once the specializations are available.
