I would not be surprised if the number was low, because it was a test. This is like the soft opening of the Weekend Event. There was no story or announcement and the task was simple and easy to obtain.
Weekend challenge (because its really not an event): Kill 100 enemies with axes and 100 enemies with staves for a chest each.

Yeah, heads up that if your game crashes during the match, your progress towards the challenge could get wiped. Just happened to me during a PS4 Legionnaire solo on Routine/Elven Ruins/Red Templars - saw that I had my 100 kills via the achievement tracker, decided to go ahead and try to solo the boss. About 3/4 of the way through the fight the game crashed. Came back to find that Axe Mastery had reset to 0/100. ![]()

You have to get the killing blow I'm pretty sure. Ability kills with said weapon count towards the 100 though.

Hmmm might join the archer legion for a little while. Or maybe the hunter.

Bioware should be given a cookie for implementing these two weekend challenges without introducing new bugs. Quite an achievement. Bravo.
Yes, definite progress.

Got a level 17 rare sword in first commendation pack.
Got level 23 rare fury of the veil staff, and a enhanced heal on kill 5% ring. Only needed the staff, but still, not bad.
I think these commendation packs might be equivalent to a few large chests in terms of high level rares/uniques. If they would price these at $3-5k gold it would go towards solving the big issue of too much junk to salvage as occurs with large chests.

Actually, while the Rarity is not too far off Large Chests, the item levels of the rares seem to definately be far higher on average compared to anything I have gotten previously. Higher level rares have been very infrequent for me. It is usually the same damned level 6 rare useless item that rots in my inventory, so seeing guaranteed level 20~ (or thereabout) rares was damn refreshing.

I got a level 13 rare and junk, and a level 17 ish rare and junk. I honestly don't think these chests are any different from the usual, as in a normal chest i bought straight after i got a level 21 rare.

Hm...not a great "event" (I really hope that there will be a distinction between event and challenge) but at the very least its a nice start. Baby steps are ok with me...if they keep this stuff going. This is very small, if they can do this every weekend (with variations each time) I'll be OK with that. Would be nice to see them ramp it up on occasion though, make it unique sometimes...like make a special match where the enemies are a composition of all enemy types, where you fight all 3 bosses at once (with no trash mobs) in stage 5.
Something small but cool like that to change up the game would be great. If this is the only weekend event for another month, however...that would be pretty disappointing.
Nice to see the commendation chest finally! Now if only that was able to be purchased in the storefront and not only reserved for weekend events. Again, babysteps. Hopefully they'll upgrade the storefront in the future because, while the commendation chest is a nice reward and incentive, it still provides crap.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to make of this weekend event since it was not promoted by Bioware at all. I'll complete it shortly but it won't have me playing multiplayer for more than a few games at most.

Um Penguin this is not constructive criticism. You have failed your own test.
Double standards.

I've argued with penguin before
And I'm still inclined to say that Zane's is worse

Only recently started playing multiplayer - staff kills nice and easy, but where can I get an axe quickly? I haven't yet got enough materials to craft any new characters and have no axe schematics... if I get enough to craft a character, do any of them come with an axe by default?

Wow I got a longbow of the griffin in my first commendation chest.

Negative. Just keep opening large chests and you should come across a 1-handed ax eventually. Good luck!

Well, Korbin and Neria each soloed routine once. Done. I'm hoping for a community goal next time, but hey, at least its something! Plus, out of the two commendation packs, I got 4 level 20 common staffs, and a level 21 rare staff and 20 rare greataxe! Not bad, even if most of the staffs just got salvaged for the cloth that I am still in desperate need of.

Nope, all characters start with the basic Inquisition weapon, in the weapon-and-sheild's case, that's a longsword, and weapons can't be crafted (at least not yet). All you can do is keep buying chests, and sacrifice a few goats to the RNG god.
