David Gaider already confirmed that they won't be making Cullen bi, so I don't see the point of peeps here arguing about that.

That didn't have the intended ironic effect as you probably hoped, sorry. Because it doesn't make sense in the context.

The point is that it's always gay or bisexual characters that need to have a damn good reason for existing, or else why include them? It's obviously just pandering to LGBT and SJWs.

Straight characters don't need a reason to be there. Their inclusion is never a form of pandering.  Right?

I don't like when he says that. Despite being so true, he is such a heartbreaker </3

Guys. Have you seen the tweets I posted a few pages ago?

Someone asked David Gaider if Cullen's romance was cut because of time restraints and he confirmed it was because of that reason.

We've moved well beyond that at this point.

Right, it's the good old:

Gay character talks about their sexuality:  PANDERING!  SJWs!!!!!  Teh AGENDA!!!!  My throat!!!!!

Gay character doesn't talk about their sexuality:  PANDERING!  SJWs!!!!!  Teh AGENDA!!!!  My throat!!!!!

Not quite. He says reasons, which I take to mean both time constraint and story/character progression

Right.  This was what I was thinking too.  He just says "same reasons as before".  Not what those reasons were.  Did I miss something?  Genuine question.

Do you do that whenever a straight character talks about or displays their sexuality?  I used to all the time, but my throat got too sore.

Well, no. I justed assumed that was the reason Gaider was talking about, since he only replied after that person asked if the content was cut because of time problems.

I'm still sure that is the reason, since that other Bioware employee told us so.

So far all my points were that characters shouldn't be defined only by their sexuality and sexuality shouldn't be the only reason for their existence. Writers write a character, he happens to be straight/bi/gay, it's all good as long as it is not the other way around. So yes, pandering in any capacity is bad.

Only thing that needs to be focused on is good writing and all the complexity and diversity will be the natural result of it.

I had to skip over some of these pages because some of the arguments people make about this stuff are so callous it's better for me if I don't' read them. Dang. It's amazing to see a bunch of straight people who've never even had to think about representation before feel like they can just barge in and explain everything while getting all fired up about the mere existence of gay people.

As always, grateful for the more thoughtful posters, even the ones I disagree with on specific points, because it's amazing what a difference respecting someone's humanity can make, lmfao.

Because it raises quite a few issues. For example, why was the female romance for Cullen prioritised over the male one, even without Cullen straight women would have 3 romances and bi ones 5. Also imagine if Cullen was a gay romance in DA:I instead of a straight one, then it's found that dialogue exists in the game for Cullen and a femqusiitor and Bioware then stated that the reason Cullen was made gay instead of the intended bi because they didn't finish the scene for a female character. Then imagine Bioware said it would never be changed at this point, even though most of the romance already eixsts, how annoyed do you think people would be?

Okay, so what if they wanted to write a cast brimming with gay and bisexual characters?  Like, they legit wanted to and flat out said so.

Your thoughts?

You mean the employee who is no longer an employee and whose involvement in creating Cullen's character is unknown and also probably had to sign an NDA so likely shouldn't have said anything? Okay then.

The difference is that Cullen has a history of being attracted to/awkwardly flirting with only human and elven women (I try not to use the terms male and female when talking about people). So if he was suddenly gay then that would be be even more of an issue for me (though not going to lie, I would still romance his fennec boa off).
