Question: is it wrong to see another male attractive when you consider yourself straighter than a 2x4? Because Barris looks pretty damn good, with this Frostbite engine.

no, because I'm about as straight as a circle, and I still want Vivienne to reject my advances all day

His argument was that I said that LBGT are okay as long as they're in a sea of straight characters. I never said that.

But okay, I got rekt.

Which is why I said quit now. I see a lot of condensation coming from both sides, and when one feels insulted and insults the other and both won't come to a compromise, then there's no point. Everyone just gets mad.

I'm laughing so hard at this idea that any gay characters in Bioware could be the result of the poor writers who only wanted the artistic freedom to pursue only the interesting value of straight men but had to pander to the ~gay agenda~ or whateve.

Pretty sure it's the exact opposite. I imagine Dorian is the kind of character Gaider has wanted to write for years, but had to wait for the ~straight agenda~ to accept it.

Yep it's pretty much opposite I think. I guess there might be some kind of pressure to add more representation but in other hand there is pressure to keep things unchanged for sure. I remember this one video stating why Cass, Josie and Sera are ugly and did list of "what female characters in the game should look like" based on it. It was quite long list about things how exactly female characters should look and shouldn't look including no scars, no wide jaws, no short hair, no button noses or moles etc. To me that sounds very restricting when creating new character.

Ah, good stuff.

No, I'm not making fun of you.  I just woke up, I'm sicker than hell, so I am sipping coffee.

It's a communication problem, people make up their mind about what you said before they even finish reading your post, lol.

Harumph. And here I had such a girl crush on Cassandra and didn't know I wasn't supposed to because of her scars and square jaw.

I wish someone refuted a single point I made, without pretending that I wrote something entirely else. That would make me happy. I don't like when my opinion is unchallenged, makes it kinda pointless to write.

But okay, I got rekt.

No, he quoted you.  You did indeed say that having too many LGBT characters would be pandering and forced.  You also said that you care only about "good writing." You had just said that, even if the writing was good, having a mostly LGBT cast would be like having "an all white or all Asian or all black cast.  disingenuous and forced," did you not?

Therefore, what we are left to conclude that you only want a few LGBT characters (not too many, lest you get uncomfortable,) so long as a straight cast surrounded it.  And considering your passion against the very idea that Cullen might have almost been (gasp!) not straight, I'm left questioning why this would bother you so much.

Dave isn't wrong and frankly, other than "That's not what I meant," you keep posting the same nonsense about a "forced" cast.  If Dave isn't wrong, then I would suggest clarifying what you meant.  Please don't think I'm picking on you either, as I think you might have gotten your words wrong.  Still, you made some pretty hurtful statements, so try to explain.

Please tell us how Dave is wrong.

Kinda hard to keep up with everything, you know? Once we're talking about bi Cullen, then Anders, condensation, Dorian.. I like this thread, especially when peeps argue.. It's a gameee, honestly, I sh*t you's not.

Man, this really exploded.

I know they'll never do it, but what about a hypothetical expansion that, along with a bunch of other nifty stuff, gave an previously unromanced male inquisitor (or those races who couldn't romance him before) the option to try a romance with Cullen after the main game ended/after they got to know each other?

Sexuality is a widely varied spectrum. People have preferences, but aren't always completely bound to them. Because Cullen has such a focus on the connection between himself and his partner rather than the physical aspect (he was obviously physically attracted to the fem!quis in the beginning, but wouldn't act on it until after they'd grown to love each other) I personally don't find it that hard to believe that a relationship could start in the opposite, forming that connection first and then the physical attraction happening later. That means it could be more than reasonable that anything started with a male inquis might take longer to be recognized/develop, and that it would proceed differently than the fem!romance.

I don't really picture Cullen as the type of character that would abandon that kind of bond just because of the other person's gender, or even race. Realistically it might just take longer to develop. Because the idea of it is already present within the game files I have an even harder time thinking otherwise.

Just my brain doing a thing. As you were.

Oh, hrm, there are problems with it, but I kind of like that idea as a hypothetical because it would give unique content for that romance instead of patching it in.

However i think it would cause an even LARGER wankstorm than if they just finished the already started content.

that's pretty much the thought process behind the Kaidan romance, and while it worked there, there was just so much tension built up that it made sense. I'm not sure the same could be said for Cullen however.

I didn't say that having too many LBGT characters would be pandering, I said that setting out to write that kind of cast just for the sake of it would be pandering.  All my points in this thread so far were that the reason for characters existing shouldn't be just one trait and his/her defining characteristic. I already made myself clear by saying:

"

A character that is only defined by his sexuality and is only there for the sake of satisfying a certain group of people without any other reason of being there and wouldn't have been there if not for that group's satisfaction IS a result of pandering and not of creative expression.

A character that is complicated, well fleshed out and his sexuality is NOT the only reason that defines him and he's not just there to satisfy a certain group of people is a result of creative expression and nobody has the right to have a problem with that kind of character. That is not pandering, that is good writing.

"

Same approach to one character only defined by one trait applies to groups as well. My points aren't against LBGT, my points are against tokenism.

Again: "having all black/white/gay/straight whatever cast is bad" is not what I'm saying. I'm saying that setting out to write that particular cast just for the sake of "representation" is bad. It being a result of creative expression is not bad. That is the fundamental difference in my reasoning you and dave don't seem to understand.

Meh, people are gonna wankity no matter what.

Thinking more on it, it would be interesting to have a bisexual romance that's treated differently depending on which gender to romance the character by, in general.

The problem is that you assume this hypothetical scenario would be against the creative expression and desire of the devs, which attributes a laughable amount of power to the queer fanbase while ignoring the fact that the devs write the stories they want already, even if its unpopular. (See Sera, for example)

You must be saying it's a good idea then? Or am I the only one who thinks a wankstorm sounds good. I want everyone to make a mental image of one in your heads, No no, a larger wankstorm. You're welcome. #WankforCullen
