Yeah, in these types of conversations people react more to their own projection of what they expect the other person to mean rather than reading the words themselves. Kinda makes the discussion seem pointless. It's more about "1 upping" the other person rather than working towards a constructive result. That's the internet for ya :D

No doubt.  ;)

I believe you also meet him, kind of, during the first visit to Val Royeaux

Yep. Right before the Revered Mother gets dropped.

What, you aren't going to call for your pipe, call for your bowl and call for your Fiddlers Three?

I have no idea why that old rhyme entered my head while reading your post.

I can't imagine romancing Cullen anyway. I mean, he's a templar. It kinda ruins the magic.

What pun?

Cullen was originally featured as the templar in the mage origin that would have been reluctant to harm you, but assigned to kill you if it went wrong.  Cullen had a rather obvious crush on the female mage Warden.  So, your "ruining the magic" comment came off as a pun.   ;)

Ha, yeah, I'll bet he gets a lot of angry tweets. It's hard to figure out who actually means to be rude and who's just bad at communicating online - I don't mean to sound like I'm criticizing him for being defensive. Just feel like this person tweeting him probably wasn't actually trying to start a real argument. Starting a statement with "okay but," using mild expletives, and using all lowercase letters is characteristic of a lot of deliberately overblown humorous dialogue online. Lots of focuser "like" and friendly slang is also used to soften the speaker's stance after the initial tweet, so it seems like they were trying to back off from being confrontational.

Sorry, I'm a linguist. Can't help but analyze people's speech patterns.

Um, I'm pretty sure the kid was being intentionally rude, considering she tweeted this right after Gaider denied her ship:

"like white dudes are always so petty and passive aggressive about **** that should be a quick let me set u straight thing"

I feel really sorry for the generation that learned how to write on tumblr.

I'm deeply offended, I would never imply that the joke came out of the fact that love is magical and Cullen is an ex-templar (a dude resistant to magic).

P.S. Sorry, couldn't help myself :D

And he pretty much seemed like he was going to give himself a good flogging for those feelings. I wonder if he would have handled the bi aspect of himself and being attracted to men equally as well because by the end in the circle he was one heck of a mess. And if it was a male mage, male Amell or Surana would that make it twice as bad for the day and age of the setting, how it appears to have ramifications based on Dorian's scenes. I wonder if that might be why they chose to not take that route now that I think of it. We've got the whole lyrium addiction element and had they made him bi and gone with it, I wonder if even though his being a lyrium addict was in no way is own fault and literally forced on him, would that just become another element of something that would not look good where someone somewhere would start a whole 'the one good bi male is a lyrium addict!' thread? Right now I feel like not having him as a bi option based on some of the concerns people brought up in this thread might be good. I can just see the fallout now and I can imagine a whole conversation in the writing department 'well we can't have both because it just won't look good. Someone will be up in arms about it because someone always is and they will stir the pot and we'll be remembered for creating a bi male character who was a lyrium addict. So it's either lyrium addict or bi male. Which will it be?'
