And by your logic everyone who doesn't tell eveyone their sexuality is what? auto-straight?
Welcome to the "Straight By Default" mentality.

I also agree that the GaymerX comment was probably Cullen
or maybe it was cole...ah ok no more cole stuffs sorey

Their sexuality is irrelevant except if it is clearly indicated, then I'd prefer that they didn't alter their character just to appeal to fans. If a character clearly shows interest in women or men but never shows interest in the other gender, then they shouldn't suddenly alter their likes just because the fans want it. If Cullen was bi in DAO, he shouldn't become straight only. Likewise, he never showed interest in male characters so he shouldn't suddenly gain an interest in males just because the fans demand it. I applaud Bioware if they kept Cullen straight because that is the character and story they wanted to tell. Also, lets face it, this wouldn't be as big if it was say Blackwall.
Okay, now I can tell you haven't been here long. Not coming down on you for it, just an observation.
Um, yeah it would just a big of a deal. It wouldn't matter who the male character was, this would be a huge deal.

Cullen could have been biromantic demisexual.. I think it would have fitted to character
I've heard that theory, and I actually really like it. (Like, stomach-squiggly glee like it.) Josephine, too, but I haven't gone through her LI plot yet. (Still thinking which Inquisitor I'm gonna use for her. Perhaps Ashtal?) I just hope one day I can get a, ah, more explicitly asexual romance. Or being able to play as explicitly ace.
Actually let's be honest, if it were blackwall it wouldn't be nearly as big not passionate a thread.Okay, now I can tell you haven't been here long. Not coming down on you for it, just an observation.

If they include a bisexual relationship for Cullen....I would actually purchase this game again to say thank you. That would be amazing! ![]()
Actually let's be honest, if it were blackwall it wouldn't be nearly as big not passionate a thread.
**** here. YOU CAN HAVE HIM. *kicks Blackwall away*
I'd taken a ungated Cullen over Blackwall any day ![]()
And by your logic everyone who doesn't tell eveyone their sexuality is what? auto-straight? You know, a lot of people shat themselves over Kaidan because obviously since he didn't ask a male commander to sick his d*ck in him, therefore he MUST be straight. Oh wait, ME3 Kaidan...Same people who still claim Anders was super straight, despite Anders flirting with Nathaniel in DA:A.
So, you're saying that I was right earlier when I said I was almost positive Awakening Anders was bi but couldn't remember why? (This was not a disagreement with you, by the way. But something in Awakening made me pretty sure he was bi.)
By your logic, every character ever is bisexual. Cass is bi since she never says she isn't into women for my male inquisitor, Blackwall is bi since he never says he's not, and lots. That kind of logic doesn't fly with me.
Actually no, it means that every character that doesn't state their sexuality is potentially bi or sth else.. Like Merrill doesn't say she is into girls in any point although she's bisexual ![]()
Actually let's be honest, if it were blackwall it wouldn't be nearly as big not passionate a thread.
The passion would still be there, albeit a little less strong. It probably wouldn't have gotten so big so fast, but I have no doubt there would have been a serious uproar if it had been any other male character. No matter who the character was, folks on one side feel like they lost representation, while the opposing side having varying degrees of solid and not-so-solid reasons as to why this isn't the case. Both sides can get really insulting too.
Same old song and dance, just Cullen happens to be the one this time. And it's a helluva fast tempo with a strong beat playing. <shrug>
I honestly thought the comment was about Solas, but again, that's interpretation. (Edit: the bisexual romance that wouldn't work comment)Approve all of these, but I would modify this one to a happy, low-drama straight dude. I’ve been kind of bummed about the Cullen situation ever since the apparent reason for the cut came out (I want to believe that Gaider’s tweet with plural “reasons” meant there were story reasons as well, but that’s classic BSN overreaching unless someone from BW says otherwise).
Let me preface this by quoting Patrick Weekes at GaymerX: “Straighty’s going to be OK.” I totally understand that limited AAA game content for straight female gamers is not the same as limited AAA game content plus until-recently-nonexistent representation for gaymers. But: just as it is for men and women interested in the same sex, BioWare is still the only mass-market video game studio I’m aware of that makes this kind of content for straight women. I was agnostic on the Cullen issue before the sexualities were announced, but after completing DA:I (aside from noticing and wondering about the near-total lack of references to the PC being female in his romance) I was so happy that the DA series finally had a full-fledged romance specifically for women interested in men that included no lies, tragedies, or dysfunction, which are awesome as part of a variety but all of which have in practice been concentrated in the straight men throughout the BioWare oeuvre. I’m really surprised at how disappointed I was to learn after the fact that this wasn’t an intentional decision.
I hope DA4 includes both one or more gay, lesbian, or bi KISAs and a planned-as-straight guy with a happy, mutually respectful romance arc like Cullen's. I also hope they come down one way or another on Cullen: either patch him in as bisexual or declare him canonically straight and write him as such in any story DLC / expansions. Going halfway by keeping DA:I as is and adding an expansion-only mini-romance for men wouldn't be fair to either audience in my opinion.
So, you're saying that I was right earlier when I said I was almost positive Awakening Anders was bi but couldn't remember why? (This was not a disagreement with you, by the way. But something in Awakening made me pretty sure he was bi.)
Yeah, pretty sure. I think he also flirts midly with Oghren but it could just be friendly.
@Efvie: Gay guys still have two options though, same number as straight guys, so if a gay guy doesn't like either Dorian or Iron Bull then that's his problem, not the developer's. It's completely fair.
It's the same reason why it always amuses me when I see topics of straight guys complaining that they 'only' have one option in this game just because they don't like one of them - you still have two options, you not liking one (or sometimes both) is your problem. Case in point: I didn't like Morrigan in Origins, likewise I didn't like Jack or Tali in ME2, yet I still had two and three options respectively; me not liking all of them was my problem, the developers did give me choice, so I wasn't going to complain (I'm sure there were plenty of other guys who did in fact like them).
As to you wanting to open up all romances to everyone, well, I wholeheartedly disagree. Having certain restrictions gives a game more replay value and adds more variety to the characters - you shouldn't be able to get anyone and/or everyone. If you want to be able to do that play a game like the Sims or a dating simulator instead.
This all goes down to the fact that people were not happy with the choices given to them and some are hiding behind the banner of representation to demand what they want.
And yes there are truly some horrible heterosexual trolls out there who treat the LGBT community like garbage.
I will ALWAYS call people out on that.
But there are some extremely militant people on the other side and on this forum who have an eye for eye for mentality and who lump all heterosexuals into one group.
It selfish for heterosexuals to demand straight mods for Dorian but its also selfish for people to demand Bi Mods for Cassandra and Cullen.
When people demand mods to alter a characters sexuality they're basically thinking they are BETTER than the writers who created the characters.
The game is fine the way it is. If people have issues romancing the characters....its on them.
I have completed one playthrough romacing Cullen and one with a male romancing Dorian. I have had a lot of fun with BOTH playthroughs. I am planning to start a Dalish playthrough for Solas and a male dwarf for IB.
I do NOT expect the game developers to cater to my needs/demands and its selfish for others to expect to be catered to. The world does not work that way. Its time for people to grow up.
When all is said and done...the writers do NOT owe us anything

Sigh. I don't think anyone here is DEMANDING MODS...it's a polite request for restoration of cut content. And it's completely unfair to equivocate the two, as the Cullen bisexual content files are IN THE GAME, whereas Cass and Dorian's sexualities (esp Dorian's, ffs) are very set and clearly not due to time constraints, which a Bioware employee already stated was the reason for the Cullen cut. The devs themselves have already said they want to add more things to the game that they didn't' have time to do before it was released, so while I don't think this particular content will be a part of it, it's perfectly reasonable to express that you would like that to be part of it.
I swear, sometimes on these forums you can't say "it would be cool if" or "I would like this" without someone swooping in and accusing you of being demanding and entitled and childish. There's nothing wrong with expressing desires or sharing your opinions on a piece of media if you're respectful to the creators of the text. Especially in a subforum specifically designed for that.

W00t, more Blackwall for me!
I don't think people would be quite as excited if it was Blackwall instead of Cullen, simply because Cullen is clearly the more popular character. (With other people. Cullen is OK, I guess, but give me a big slab of angst wrapped in a beard and a Northern accent any day.)

No theres nothing wrong but I've recieved private message from people who are too scared to say anything because they don't want to be bullied by the status quo here.
Hopefully the developers add content that appeal to ALL of the fanbase because if they add the Cullen content...you will see rage from people wanting Cassandra Bi. This is only going to cause a domino effect.
If outside modders can do it...GREAT but the developers should focus on providing content for ALL the fans.

To me it seems like Cullen is bisexual and it wasn't included in the game because time issues. Devs can of cource state otherwise but since there seems to be quite lot of dialogue involving Cullen romancing male Inquisitor like companions referring to it and final romance dialogue as well, it really seems like it was quite intended that he's bisexual, it wasn't just one passing thought.
In Dorian's case his sexuality is deeply part of his character arc which would require changing that whole thing up so it wouldn't really work if he was bisexual. Also many in this topic talk about representation and erasure, but since mods really affect only games of those who download them I don't agree with that point as much.
It's not selfish to ask things though, I haven't seen many people here at least demanding BW to do anything. It'd be nice if they restored the content that was cut away but I doubt that will happen so Cullen being bi might have to stay just as headcanon.
I honestly thought the comment was about Solas, but again, that's interpretation. (Edit: the bisexual romance that wouldn't work comment)
I'm not sure why it matters if a dude LI happy and drama free and straight instead of bisexual from a female perspective. Even if Cullen was bisexual, straight women would still get that drama free romance, no? Guess I'm confused here about your disappointment...?
Because there's very little content made for women in gaming, and part of why I got into BioWare was the fact that they bother to make something particularly for my demographic (as well as for other under-served demographics). After playing games as a male character my whole life it felt nice that a company said "hey, this is specifically for women!" (EDIT: And, I mean, maybe that isn't a big deal to everybody! I have no problem agreeing to disagree.) But it had bummed me out a little that except for Garrus, all the full-on romances in Mass Effect and Dragon Age exclusively for straight women have a gut punch in there somewhere. I love a good BioWare gut punch now and then, but it was weird to think that our special content always came with a knife behind its back whereas none of the straight male-exclusive content does (I can understand why they wouldn't want to do that for the gay male-exclusive content, and while Traynor seems happy I'm unclear right now on what the consensus was with the Sera romance). A happy straight-male romance would point to that just being coincidence / statistics of small numbers.
Yeah, pretty sure. I think he also flirts midly with Oghren but it could just be friendly.
He definitely has some very flirty line readings with Nathaniel Howe (the "do mages always wear robes" thing comes to mind), and I think he flusters Oghren at one point too but I agree, the latter seemed more Anders trolling Oghren for fun than being legitimately interested in him like he seemed to be in Nate.

There isn't much content for gay male gamers either though ^^;
Actually let's be honest, if it were blackwall it wouldn't be nearly as big not passionate a thread.
Blackwall's a boring a hell character, whereas Cullen is the only normal male to romance. I don't want Cullen to change, but I'm just saying no one likes Blackwall.

Cullen should have flirted with the male mage then in Origins. No its definitely not wrong to ask for things but there are people here with an eye for eye mentality who like to make other people feel miserable.
Cullen is fine the way he is. If outside modders want to make him Bi...fine. Its selfish for people to change any characters sexuality.
There isn't much content for gay male gamers either though ^^;
Right, which is why I said I appreciate that they do something special for each of several underrepresented groups, and why I said in my first post that I'm not trying to say straight women have had it as rough as other groups.

I don't think that's either true or productive.
