Just look at the competition. In my opinion, DA:I is better than most of those, but all of those are more believable as christmas gifts and mainstream success stories.

I agree!

Does anyone else think the release date was inconvenient? I feel like they should have either released earlier, or later.

1. What is your point/goal OP?

2. Most people have horrible taste. Just look at popular music.

3. DA:I is going to sell more copies in the long run than many of those titles up there on that list.

4. DA:I is better than all of those games combined.

5. DA:I is better than all of those games combined.

6. DA:I is better than all of those games combined.

7. Most people have horrible taste. Again, music.

It means very little.   These charts are comparing apples and spaghetti in most instances.     Different platforms/different price points/different audiences/different release dates...

There are far more mosquitoes in the world than dolphins, but that doesn't mean they are more popular.

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Hopefully

4.-6. Yes

7. Yes

I'm worried with the lineup of games next year, that the long term sales might even suffer.

Goal of the post is to discuss numbers, and what the numbers might mean for the series. Just a discussion thread.

If if was selling 160,000+ on a single platform in north america on it's 3rd week, that would have been exceptional, I'm pretty sure that would be an unprecedented performance for a Bioware game.

A lot of those games are offered in system bundles. Do those purchases/claims count in those figures?

Release date didn't help. They delayed for a month for bug fixing

I agree, DAI should have been released either earlier or later. Instead it came out around the same time as a bunch of console exclusives and some re-vamped re-releases. (I include COD- Advanced Warfare as a re-vamped re-release like Grand Theft Auto)

Not sure. Possibly.

And if so it means DA:I made top 25.

And yeah, release date kinda messed up some sales I think.

I only saw  2  games on that list that are any good.

But games that are easy and shooters will always out sell rpgs, and games that have brand names that are widely known and accepted will always outsell things even if they are crap, or same game with different looks.

Edit: But if I recall right system bundles do count has sells of games, will double check when I have time.

Yup turns out they are included. Mean GTA and Last of us, and Assassin's Creed are slightly lower on the list.

DA:I almost certainly made top 25 if you take that into consideration. Which is a good thing obviously. ^_^

OP, am I correct in assuming you wish DA:I was at the top? Just like I do? I can maybe imagine where you are coming from. I think the world would be a better place if RPG's were the most popular game genre but that isn't the reality of our world.

What's the source for this?

And considering Bioware fans can't use VGChartz to say DA:I sold 1.14m in the first week, you'd better not say VGChartz now...

IIRC, digital sales aren't counted on that list. Both my copies of DAI are digital.

Christmas present games are more likely to be physical copies, and a lot of those games are likely Christmas presents. Until digital sales are reported better, will we really get good numbers?

BioWare said it was outselling both previous titles and expectations (the last one being the most important if you're BioWare in terms of securing a budget for DLC or DA4 or whatever from EA). So I feel like they're good.

Yeah I do, RPG's are my fav genre. I also love strategy games though.

Well what do you expect? Bioware lost consumer confidence with Dragon Age 2 and mass effect 3.

You want a real number?   EA stock is up almost 10% over the course of just last month.   That's a real verifiable number.   I bought stock in May at ~$28.50/share and now its ~$43.50 a share.

If you bought 100 shares back then and sold that today... that's a $1500 profit...

Yes, I would say its doing fine.

Its been like this, in terms of sales numbers, since the early '90s.  DA2 and ME3 didn't have anything to do with it then, and they don't have anything to do with it now.  This is just the way the genre sells.  Always has.

To the OP: This is the second thread you made along these lines.  RPGs (the genre) have never been mainstream successes.  The numbers above do not indicate a bad trend, they indicate that all things are as they have always been.

I'm sure the average Gamer buys stocks everytime he/she goes into a gamestore.

On a serious note , hard to judge DA I , what are we comparing it to? Its a mature game , atm pre x-mas parents might be buying games for less mature audiences.

If we are comparing it to other DA games its hard because it was released on 5 platforms compared to the others which were what 1 and 3 on release?

Also how do we rate a game so soon on sales? I say give it a few months then see how well it has done

He is here to bash bioware and not make legit points, oddly the old games aren't impacting sales at the time now that the game has been out.  It really has to do with some types of games being more popular then others, sadly rpgs hayday was back in the early 90s. Now people want coops, shooters and so on.

All I know is that many online retailers (Amazon included) are sold out esp of the PS4 Deluxe edition. There may be a supply issue for it not being higher.

Here we go again.  What do I think? You've deliberately ignored the comments of Jarrett Lee regarding how well this is doing, and the reason why DAI isn't going to be seen on those charts you can't seem to get away from. I'm not even going to bother reiterating the exact details as this is the 4th thread where this non issue has been brought up, second by you. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that you're trolling.
