This. Until we actually have the data for digital sales, any speculation is coming out of very incomplete data at the moment.
Interesting list in the OP, but I think it's still safe to say the sky still isn't falling.
There is a lot of long time franchises in there. Pokemon, FIFA, CoD, Mario Kart, AC, GTA, Smash Bros. Those are some serious heavy hitters and at least one of those franchises is 20 years old. Also, with three of them being long running Nintendo titles, I'm not surprised to see them at the top of the list. Minecraft has been pretty much a success from the start.
And while Square has been futzing around with a proper third installment of the Kingdom Hearts games for years now, the games are hugely popular after 12 years. There 2 main games, three side stories, a remix and now there is going to be a second remix of KH2.
Even some of the ones that aren't long running franchises have an advantage here. I'm not ripping on Shadows of Mordor, but even that was built off of an old and well established intellectual property. The audience was largely built in, and the gameplay is more action oriented. Again, no surprise there.
I'm used to the RPGs I love not cracking the Top 10 or even the Top 20 sales lists. They still do well, I've been still getting sequels for the games I enjoy, and the company is making their money back. RPGs have always been niche, even if the post FFVII world enjoys it far more than in my high school years. I don't let sales numbers bother me. And truthfully, when one of the devs stated that this was outselling it's predecessors, I'm inclined to believe him.
Folks on the BSN are getting sick of charts because they aren't a true reflection of sales at this point. Heck, the last two games my husband bought for the PS4 (Tomb Raider and Alien:Isolation) were digital only. He never went into a store at all. So it isn't just PC digital sales that are missing from those lists, it's any digital sales at this point. Right now, these lists are only reflecting the sales of physical copies.
It tends to create stupid arguments where no one has any complete data is interested in listening to anyone else, just yelling at each other. Also, I think a lot of folks (including me) find this obsession with numbers just weird. It's a niche market, and it's going up against a lot of franchises right now.
I wouldn't stress it. It's doing just fine, and we're got plenty of years of Dragon Age to love or to loathe yet to come.
