I think word of mouth is going to catch up with them. They'll do well enough for xmas sales but with where they were standing before this game was released which was in a very worrisome zone of having to regain rep with a lot of fans who felt burned by their last two games, there are a lot of people on the fence and being very cautious with whose review they pay attention too. They want detail. Not glowing sing song praises. Not fast recaps of all the things that supposedly make it a good game. What they want are the nitty gritty stuff that you find people in the forum here bringing up and I promise you that if those people come across even some of those comments they will wait and walk away then come back and check again. I know of several who have already done that and three of them already decided not to bother. A few are still on the fence figuring they'll get it next year or something. BW had to really pull their butts out of the fire on this one and sadly, they did not accomplish that for a fair chunk of gamers who learned to wait and watch.

Close.  I think ME3 was around 6 mil, and last I saw, Origins was at around 5 million. I'm assuming these don't include digital.

Given how poorly received DA2 was by the gaming community at large and then ME3's ending, three fact that DAI has pushed approx 2 mil physical in three weeks is amazing.  2 poorly received releases in a row usually close studios.

Not if those "poorly received" (Gotta love the online gaming community's hubris, assuming they represent everyone) made them more profit/outsold their predecessors though.

In all seriousness, yes, both DAII and ME3 had its issues (ME3 is still my fave ME game, fight me), but the melodrama is getting old. And DAI is selling well too.

An example being COD: Ghosts which recieved very mixed reviews and has sold more than 19 million units.

Established IP and great marketing made sure that a video game, which was average at best, sold extremely well. Even with the sales not being as good as its predecessor.

Another example being Assasins Creed: Unity which by all accounts should be doing horribly on the market given the amount of technical issues and near broken, if not actually broken, state of the PC version.

Number of sales is not the de facto measurement for how good a video game is.

That could be said about any successful piece of entertainment/game ever.

Skyrim: There are dragons and pretty places. Also a plot...somewhere.......

DAO: A Song Of Ice And Fire ripoff with orcs...er...darkspawn....and dragons

Sims1-4: Simulate life if ya ain't got one

Now that argument just doesn't hold up. If a game sells well despite the haterade brigade spewing 0s on Metacritic within AN HOUR of release (The only outlet they have is Social Media), it's marketing that "saved" it. If a supposedly flawless RPG like Planescape Torment flops (Which it did, brilliant though it was), it was because it didn't have the solid marketing games are getting today.

The thing is, there are people out there who never played DAI who wanted it to fail and who are actively trying to sabotage its success with 0 reviews etc. Only this time the huge backlash they were hoping for isn't happening.

You know, COD cops a lot of hate for basically being the same game released every year. I wonder why Pokemon doesn't generate anywhere near the same amount of hate.

Because Pokemon games are seen as "for kids" and releasing the same game every year for kids makes total sense. That's what you do for kids. You give them more of the same stuff they like. That's also what you do for adults and why all sitcoms follow 3 basic formulas, but we don't like to admit it as much for adults. '

I think with CoD it has to do a lot with it NOT being the same game every year and the wildly variable quality between the two teams that work on the games. Ghosts vs. Advance Warfare. There is a big difference. I'm not a huge CoD fan, but some of the games are reasonably good (AW was good) and some suck so hard it's hard to imagine why someone wrote the buggered mess (Ghosts). I'm talking the SP campaigns. MP is usually solid, no matter what, if that appeals to you, and it is their main audience draw.

With games like Assasins Creed that stick to a strict yearly output, it's that the game actually feels rushed and copy-pasted so often due to their lack of development time. Never heard that complaint about Pokemon.

Some sports games do the same things, and people don't complain.

Conclusion: According to the charts DA:I hasn't sold enough units on individual platforms, not counting the sales that the site doesn't have access to, to make the UK list but it does have enough combined sales to be in the top 20.

Another example of people misusing statistics without actually understanding what they're seeing?

I think it could of sold brilliantly at least early on if it was a deep immersive story driven experience with clashing ideologies and extensive character development into interesting people. Or at least I would say people are missing out if they failed to buy it. However, it struck me mostly as a kind of on-rails Firefly fan-fic experience with lots of explosions and moustache-twirling villains.

In other words, the core of the game seems to fit in more with CoD than an RPG, and consequently people seem to be going oh might as well just play CoD.

Oy, it's too late to have those things materialize now though.. oh well.

Well, most of the listed games are bigger and more popular as franchises than Dragon Age and there are some of the behemoths of the video game industry in there. Of course DA:I can't stand against them in sales. As long as BioWare reaches their expectations, everything is fine. There was never the chance to outsell Pokemon, CoD or GTA V remastered.

How does a person like you, who's dead set on seeing Bioware burrnnnnnnnn for the damage they've done to you, deal with all the user voted Game of the Year awards DA:I is getting?

(don't act like you're not one of those, ever since the game has been released you have done nothing but trying to convince people that DA:I sucks, and you've been all over this thread trying to get people to believe that these shoddy numbers are fact and that you were right all along)

Everybody's a fool, right? ;)

Also... Sweden, lol. Not even 10 million people live there. That's really gonna bite 'em in the ass. And they have really, really good internet. Barely anyone's buying a boxed version there, which is what these numbers are. Box sales.

You know, boxed games? I used to buy those, years ago.

Bioware employees are, of course, encouraged to share publicly that DAI is selling poorly, especially in the first few weeks post-release. Am I right?

There's a difference between criticial reception and sales. If there's some truth to these numbers, perhaps it is worth paying attention to. No matter if the source is biased.

I'm not your enemy here - I, too, liked ME3 the best, and I thought DA2 was much better written than DAO (which felt a bit like an LOTR wannabe at times), though not a better game overall.  I'm well aware that DAI is exceeding sales expectations thus far, and that is a good thing.

These are box sales though.

When was the last time you bought a boxed game? I haven't in at least 5 years.

Just because other games are selling more copies, doesn't mean the game isn't doing well. You don't have to be in the top 10 list to do well.

Honestly? I wanted this game to fail as hard as possible.
I dont want Bioware to keep making half baked games which play like boring offline MMO. If they get bad sales, they might rethink where they are heading and maybe start making better RPGs.

Its been a month and they still didnt fix combat and looting on PC. Very disappointed

I wish for the opposite. i've yet to play the game but at least they had a full developement time while DA2 and ME3 had about 18 month. If this game tank there will be no incentive for EA to let them take their time. Even if this game is not fantastic, they will need this time for future project to have any chance of being good.

We have no idea as EA hasn't released digital sales yet. Only information that we have, which isn't accurate, shows close to two million as of the 6th of December.

What I can answer clearly is that some people here, including you, are misreading statistics to make them fit their own agenda.
