This thread is...weird, man. Rooting for something to fail and then putting effort towards proving that goal is just lame.

By no means am I saying you have to like the product. But hoping for financial failure when there are people's jobs on the line is messed up in my opinion.

Just my two cents.

There's a difference between criticial reception and sales. If there's some truth to these numbers, perhaps it is worth paying attention to. No matter if the source is biased.

As harsh as it sounds, but in the end this is the only possibility to change greater things - like in which direction they are heading. Vocal feedback might be useful in some scale, but money or the loss of money dictates where it's going.

Microsoft didn't change the initial concept of the Xbox One because of a handfull of people on the internet raged against it, they changed it because the pre-order numbers tanked.

That's how business works.

And so you have to be here on the forums convincing people who like the game that it, in fact, stinks? Because YOU dislike it, so other should dislike it too?

Because your opinion is the best, right? -_-

There's nothing weird about it.

I'm not even sure if I want to see it fail spectacularly.

The combat ruleset is abhorrent, for instance, so failing would perhaps induce them to completely rethink it.

On the other hand, having GLBT characters and gay sex scenes in popular media is important, as all that makes little homophobic c*nts angry and mad is a good thing.

But is this enough to not want the game to fail, I ask myself...

And where were I trying to convince someone to "dislike" it too? Nowhere. I was just stating how it works. The only choice to vote as a customer is with your wallet. If you have fun with the game and it was worth your money, good for you and I'm glad you enjoyed it. So why bother with people who doesn't think that way? Ignore them, play it, enjoy it - save you lifetime discussing with them when both sides won't leave their position.

Because you replied to someone who questioned why people did this, and you gave a reason for that behaviour.

And why bother with those people? Eh,,, they stalk these forums trying to convince everyone that the game they like actually sucks. Doesn't get any more pathetic than that.

I'm trying to convince them it's a really, really good game?

That's new. I just tell them to play something they do like, instead of wasting their time (and mine) on something they don't like.

*snort*

Its been like this, in terms of sales numbers, since the early '90s.  DA2 and ME3 didn't have anything to do with it then, and they don't have anything to do with it now.  This is just the way the genre sells.  Always has.

To the OP: This is the second thread you made along these lines.  RPGs (the genre) have never been mainstream successes.  The numbers above do not indicate a bad trend, they indicate that all things are as they have always been.

This pretty much... and it's already been stated that DAI is outpacing DAO and DA2, and has exceeded expectations.

The latter is critical here: expectations are set according to realistic standards. they know they're making a Bioware RPG, not CoD (or even skyrim). They're not foolish enough to expect demented sales numbers like GTA or COD. If DAI exceeds expectations, then it must be doing very well.

At this point, given what we've heard, we can be confident this is not the end of the road for Dragon Age.

DnD type games? Haven't seen one of those in years. Other than Divinity and maybe BG enhanced.

Or maybe DnD is just that terrible now, that Dragon Age would be considered a DnD type game. rofl

I think they mean fantasy games in general.  Tolkien largely popularized the typical fantasy settings we see today, which were based largely off of Nordic mythos.  Tolkien naturally inspired Dungeons and Dragons, the first game of any kind we would consider a modern RPG.  A lot of RPGs, both in the West and in Japan, have their roots in D&D.  The first Final Fantasy alone pretty much copied all of the monsters from the 1st Ed Monsters Compendium.

PS: Inquisition is going to be just fine, and I'm sure it's already selling well.  Incomplete data is no reason to keep worrying about this.

Yeah, but he said "DnD".

Which are game based off of DnD game rules. But maybe that's what he meant.

Oh well, back on Topic.

I don't think Dragon Age being "DnD" (lol) is what would hurt sales.
