Actually, I'm more proud about my hat than you.  I do what i want regardless of what others say. I'm not waiting for approval. And that's why i don't mind criticism.

One might think that assh*les are inherently bad, but that's not always the case. Harlan Ellison is one of history's great assh*les. There's no doubt you'd have to look pretty hard to find a bigger one. But he is, without a doubt, the assh*le that you want around when the time calls for it. He's the one fighting for the writers, in an entertainment industry that has repeatedly attempted to minimize and do away with the role of "writer" as even relevant in games, comics, films, whathaveyou. He's the one calling plagiarists out for failing to credit people properly. He's the one calling people out on their hypocrisy, or ego.

 

In short, he's the right kind of assh*le, and if we made a rule against being an assh*le, the world would be worse off for losing him.

tbf, I'm pretty sure that we're talking about people who are assholes for the sake of being assholes.  The way you describe Harlan makes him sound like he's an ******* to people who deserve it, which isn't what we were talking about removing, though, I guess you can't remove one without removing the other, right?
