No one has a right to "not be insulted, disturbed, shocked, conflicted or exposed to things and opinion he won't like". This fictional and ill-defined "safe space" is an attempt to enforce censoring and self-censoring.
A minimal level of civility is to be expected in any form of communication - but nothing more.
And no, a thicker skin does not encourages it. Quite the contrary, it deprives trolls of exactly the reaction they want to get and forces them to work harder and be more visible for everyone.

Being on the internet does not give you any right to be a total douche to other people. It's simply that.
I don't think it's so difficult to understand for those douches that being a douche is not cool.
Look at our thread, for example. Hell, look at US! We disagree on everything, but have I ever been a douche to you or vice versa? No. I think we get along pretty well considering the circumstances.
It's just that sometimes anonymity encourages people to be more... err, 'open' with their thoughts, I think. That's what I mean by it encourages it.
So yeah, it's not directed at you. I'm just saying in the general sense that being an asshat is not cool no matter where you are.

Thing is, there is "bullying" and then there's bullying.
What's the different besides quotes and bold-font?
"Bullying" is when you're in a forum and make a thread that quickly gets derailed by insults to the OP for reason x and y. That's bad.
Bullying is a constant. Emails, death-threats, facebook, twitter etc... social media is part of our everyday lives, like it or not. Facebook and all that wash can have a huge impact on how we're treated.
Do you think kids are driven to suicide because a bunch of a-holes in 4chan called them f*ggot? Nah, it's a lot worse than that and sadly ignoring that sh*t is either really hard or almost impossible to do :-/
