I am wondering if For Example: Wielding and Using a Fire Staff will impact my game if I am a Frost Mage or Vise Versa. Does it give benefits if the stave matches your skills or does it not?

I have not noticed any such benefit on my mage. If no one else has responded with a definitive answer by the time I am able, I will be glad to test it and see if there is a difference later this evening.

Thank you very much. It just seems odd for a fire staff to be wielded by a frost mage or vise versa. Yes possible. But at times there are stronger (different) elemental staves than the ones that suit your pick of Abilities.

From what I understand the only spell in the game that depends on staff element type in any way is energy bombardment. Uses the elemental type and if you have the upgrade it weakens enemies to that element 2% per bolt

One way around this for RP aspects is crafting. Different metal types will provide different damage types for crafted mage weapons. So, if you want to always use a frost staff, for example, the best thing to do is find a good schematic or two and some metals that provide that damage type. Just remember that some enemies will resist/be immune to elemental types.

I always carry fire, cold and lightning staves in my bag. It allows me to take advantage of enemy vulnerabilities, and avoid their resistances.

If I don't feel like switching staves all the time, I'd just wear the lightning staff, since it seems to be the less common resistance among monsters.

Fire is always going to be the top damage component while crafting, so that's what most people will go for. As for the elements, I think it was intended for you to have some variety and making you useful against enemies that are immune to your damage type. Say you're fighting something strong against fire, you'll only do 1 damage to them with your fire abilities, so if you have another element on your staff you can still put damage on them and save your mana for utility spells, but people tend to just go fire element on both abilities and their staff for the higher weapon damage modifying your attacks. By this I mean the fire staffs will always have higher damage than any other element due to the devs design choice, which doesn't make too much sense to me and the fire elemental tree is also the best burst tree since it has abilities like Fire mine which do 1600% weapon damage plus burning to their targets.

Is there a hidden bonus to fire that I am not seeing, like the third step in the combo has more projectiles or something? Because in crafting, the same tier materials do the same DPS, just different elements.

EDIT: Oh, you're referring to the fact that Tier 4 crafting mats are all fire, aren't you?

Opposite element spells are very important. Having energy barrage with a frost staff and lots of fire magic gives you a very flexible build.

Indeed. The highest damage/ dps you can get on a staff is through Dragon bone, which is the fire element.

Yeah, I'm using the fire staff and fire abilities along with the Knight Enchanter's spirit blade and fade ability which gives me a little versatility in my damage. I also use the frost fade step thing to close gaps.
