There is some gear in there as well, but that's the big thing.

There is an amulet of power for the inquisitor behind one of the doors. I think it's the cold one.

I think I got a purple arishok head piece for Iron Bull. Which wasn't horrible considering good qunari head armor is practically mythical.

It comes way too late in the game for it to be worth it for the rewards given, imho.

That having been said, I must do it for elven lore reasons.

Oh, I got that quite early on as a drop from IB's personal quest with the chargers. I didn't realize it was a random drop.

You spend them at a temple in the Oasis. You get resistance basically.

To expand on my opinion:  Each door leads to a corresponding resistance belt and Master rune.  All that headache for 4 belts and 4 runes is definitely not worth it.

The final cold door won't open for me and I'm pretty sure I have more than 18 shards. Or are you only supposed to open one section(cold, fire) at a time? It's a little frustrating, I'm running all over thedas up and down cliffs and streams and impassable rocks and the door keeps trolling me.

Shards are so important. In the Forbidden Oasis there is a place where you use shards to unlock doors. There are three doors. One Fire, one spirit and the most important frost. Behind each door is another 2 doors. For example behind the first frost door is 5 frost essences and another thing. But you only want to take the frost essence and leave the other thing. Same with the fire and spirit doors. This allows you to take them, leave the area, then come back and they will respawn. So you have unlimited frost, fire and spirit essence. Behind door 2 is some more frost essence(same with the fire and spirit doors), then you also get some master frost essence along with another frost amulet or something. Just take the frost essence and the master frost essence. And again when you leave the Forbidden oasis and then come back it will be there again. So now you also have unlimited master frost essence. Behind the 3rd door is more frost essence, master frost essence and now suberb frost essence. So now you also have unlimted frost essence(same with fire and spirit). But what makes this 3rd door in the frost essence so special is along with all the frost essence is 3 amulets. 2 are really rare frost amulets and 1 is an amulet of power for your character. So what you want to do is take the master frost essence, superb frost essence, the 2 frost amulets and the amulet of power. Then when you leave you can use the amulet of power for an ability point. Then you can also sell those frost amulets for over 2K gold each! And just like before those frost amulets and amulet of power will respawn when you go back. So now you have unlimited ability points and gold! If you want. Just keep going back and grabbing the amulets and getting ability points and selling the other amulets for gold.
