After you open all elemental doors, the main door opens and there is pride demon boss fight. After which you get some high level loot that seems to be random, I mean, I got Arishok's vitaar from there and someone just said they got it earlier.
the reward for collecting the shards.....?

To expand on my opinion: Each door leads to a corresponding resistance belt and Master rune. All that headache for 4 belts and 4 runes is definitely not worth it.
You also get a permanent increase to elemental resistance. Still not worth it, considering you can beat high dragons on Nightmare in less than a minute with the right exploits, but you do get perma-buffs as well.

Yeah, for all the effort that goes into it, the pay off is really underwhelming. I seriously ran around for a few minutes after defeating the pride demon, asking '...that's IT?' when I got in there. For having to search across six or seven areas of the world map for both the Ocularum skulls and the respective shards, it's really something of an anticlimax. I mean, you get experience and power out of doing it, so it's not entirely without worth, but... For a cross-region fetchquest, the end result is really disappointing.

I had hoped for something as big as a dragon-fight at least, maybe a skeletal one, posessed by a demon maybe. A mere pride-demon was...not so interesting, especially as I was as usual towards the end way too powerful already to make it challenging.
But the temple of pride having a pride-demon as boss, at least they didn't lie to us... ![]()
And yeah ... loot...LOOT! I wanna loot things, not craft them! Crafting is the bane of modern games! Design me some cool looking armor and stuf them in ancient tombs and lairs of evilness, that's what I want! Not Tool-Time with Tim Allen ...
Loot and enemy-levelling, my only really issues with the game ![]()

...more shards.
Congratulations! You're a hoarder of shards.

Nope. Not at all. In really great RPG games, the whole shard thing would've had a decent little story to go with it. Just one or two cutscenes, or just more substantial dialogue surrounding what was happeneing and why.

You get a lot of gold.
Chests have good chance to drop good items/schematics.
It drops good rune materials.
You get good chunk of elemental resistances.
Inquisitor gets an amulet of power (+1 ability point).
You also get good rings for the mage class, such as ring of barrier, ring of immolate, ring of chain lightning and ring of winter's grasp (each drops from its respective elemental room)

Boy am I glad I never wasted time on those shards.
It sounded interesting at first, but the reward isn't worth it for me.

It's incredibly disappointing. As with almost all areas in this game, there is no relevant side story to be found. If you find all shards, all you get is a fight with a pride demon and a couple of undead and then a shitty loot chest.
It's just like in the Hissing Wastes. You go through the busywork of opening 5 graves, you fight a dragon...and what does one get for the trouble? A ****** loot chest.
This is a RPG, not a MMORPG. People don't play this stuff for the 'loot', especially not if items are as boring as they are in Inquisition (and to a lesser degree, as in the entire Dragon Age franchise). Meh.

Yeah they should have put some kind of lore regarding what the temple was for. Like something was sealed there. I guess that would be silly though. It isn't like we know anyone related to the Solas.....w/e it was called. It's incredibly disappointing. As with almost all areas in this game, there is no relevant side story to be found. + 20 to all elemental resistances, some purple loot, and an amulet of power. If you're Qunari go for it. Otherwise save it for your completionist runs.

Elemental resistance and the best Vitaar in the game. Some other stuff too. And if you know the amulet of power duplication glitch, you can farm ability points.

The purpose of the shard quest is to get an achievement and so people can brag on about how long DAI takes to truly finish.

I had forgotten about the perma-buff. As you say, still not worth it.

The biggest perk of completing this quest is that it clears up the world map a bit.

Definitely this^^ A lot of the quest rewards in this game are lack luster. I was hoping for more worthy quest rewards. Something worth investing all that time in. The shard temple was the worst. I thought they would at least include some kind of lore to go with it.

I can't believe they just shoved a random demon in there. Do you find any interesting lore/implications in there?

Wait, you can get the Arishok's Vitaar without doing the shard quest? Can someone confirm this?

The Vitaar is from the ruins. What the other poster was talking about is Bull's unique helm from his personal quest.

No. There's some tablet over there, but it's really meager and does it's best to barely say anything.
Someone explained in this thread how to farm the elemental essences that you get over there and there is one Revenant over there for that rare Revenant heart.
But other than for such metagaming purposes, it's not worth it.

Random demon?
This is the demon that was imprisoned there, it was the whole point of the Temple.
And just as a side note, this is the most powerful Pride Demon in the game (It's an Elite and scales at least to level 23 - highest of all).
