**FIXED** (This fix is for the Misconfiguration problem, not necessarily the .dll prob some are having)

1a - Download EAs Download Manager. If you have problems with it like I did (got error: application tried launch but ea can go drown in a river...) read this post here: http://forum.ea.com/...43.page#3556186
1b - If you get the EADM error follow steps A, B, and C (if not, skip to D)

A -  Download "Namytemms" rar file from the above linked thread.
B - Go to C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Electronic Arts and delete or move your current EAdownloadmanager folder (move it just incase)
C - Unzip your new EAdownloadmanager into the Electronic Arts folder.
D - Double click the EA Download Manager program. Once in the EADM click on the Activate tab, enter your ME2 activation code (may require sign in).

Viola, the game will appear in your Games list and you'll be able to run the game. All of this may require a C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ install of the game (I installed it on 2 different hard drives during this EIGHT FCKING HOUR TROUBLESHOOTING MARATHON) so i'm not sure if alternate drive installs are supported with this fix.

Once you have activated the game you no longer need the EADM to start it, and I have verified that alternate drive installs will still play just fine once the game has been initially "activated".

I really hope this helps others.

I just want to say thanks. i decided to give it another try with the reinstallation. after i installed i tried to run the game without all the bonus's and i got the same error. So i uninstalled my EA downloader (and my Adobe Air prior to game reinstallation since it installs fromt he game data) then redownloaded EA downloader. I do just like you said and voila! it worked. Thank you so much for your help..... oh, and screw you EA, you suck:pinched:

D2D deluxe edition DL, XPSP3.

Ran a fresh install (3rd install overall) with 'express install' this time. Came up with same misconfiguration failure. Booted up EADownload Manager and input my ME2 serial from D2D without hyphons. This time it activated properly and I launched the game via EA Download Manager. I can't explain wth is going on, but it launched flawlessly. Hopefully this issue will be resolved within' the next week so I can reinstall onto a different HDD (hate installing onto my OS drive). Until then who knows, good luck to everyone still having trouble.

I never had any issues with activating the game in the EADownload Manager. I tried reinstalling as these instructions state but it did not solve my problem.

When i redownloaded Ea Downloader and opened it up my ME2 was already activated but i used the Ea downloader to actually successfully launch the game instead of using the icon on my computer

Mass Effect 2: Misconfiguration/Hung Activation Fix
By Zoomba Posted January 26, 2010 3:36:34 PM
Shortly after the launch of Mass Effect 2 today, a small number of users began reporting a misconfiguration issue that prevented them from running the game, or having the activation step appear to hang. We've identified the issue and have a fix detailed below. It's important to note that anyone who downloaded the game for the first time after 10am Eastern on 1/26 will not encounter these issues.

If for some reason you're getting the misconfiguration error, or the activation process is just hanging, please download this file and run it:

http://stardock.cach...2_misconfig.exe

This will attempt to repair the EAAccess tools (activation) which should solve both of those problems.

If you do not have Adobe Air installed, this will attempt to install it as well. Give the installer roughly 5min to run (it runs the installer silently, you may want to keep an eye on the task manager and wait for EAAccessInstaller to quit).

Please let me know if this does or does not fix your issue.

This file worked for me. I also was sure to make sure that server file was unblocked by my firewall.

The underlined part is not true in my case. I downloaded the game at approximately 1am ET on Jan.27th and still have the misconfiguration problem. I am currently re-downloading VIA EA DM instead of the D2D, and will try the linked file as well. Wish me luck folks.... This game has sat on my "Pre-Ordered" list for a while and I really want to put that money to some use.

Hmm that's worth a try, seeing as I've got nothing better to do.

I also downloaded from D2D, I'm using there basic Downloader, I don't know if this is the EA version everyone is talking about or not. And to be perfectly honest I don't understand what is meant by this reconfiguration. I have looked at the EACore_app which reads as follows.

[EACore]

ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true

SharedServerId=MassEffect2

core.agents.0.id=AGENT_ACCESS

core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\activation\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}

core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_GET_LICENSE_USER

core.agents.0.handlertype=AIR

core.agents.1.id=AGENT_ACCESS2

core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\activation\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}

core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LICENSE_ERROR

core.agents.1.handlertype=AIR

core.agents.2.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS

core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}

core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS

core.agents.2.handlertype=QT

Its important to note that to my knowledge I do not have an Activation folder in my Program Files.

Mass Effect 2 (PC)

Digital Deluxe Edition, from Direct2Drive (Also tried downloading/installing from the EA Download Manager)

MassEffect2.exe v1.00

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ / 2410 MHz / 1.99 GB

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 / 896 MB VRAM / Driver Version 195.62

SB X-Fi Audio [AC00] / Driver Version 6.0.1.1373

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)

DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

Problem Details: I can launch the main menu of Mass Effect 2, when I click Play I get the message:
"AWC.dll
The game cannot launch because of a misconfiguration. Please reinstall your game and try again."

Happens every time I try to play.
I have tried reinstalling multiple times, downloading from different sources, installing on a different drive nothing so far has worked.

My EACore_App.ini -

[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2
core.agents.0.id=AGENT_ACCESS
core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_GET_LICENSE_USER
core.agents.0.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.1.id=AGENT_ACCESS2
core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LICENSE_ERROR
core.agents.1.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.2.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.path="F:\\Games\\Mass Effect 2\\binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.handlertype=QT

All paths are correct.

Open your EaCore_app.ini file. Highlight all the text and erase it leaving the file blank. Save the file like this and your game should start. This exact same thing happened to me in Dragon Age Origins and this fixed it.

I just spent a few days trying to solve this, and ran into a solution that surprised me that it actually worked!

My problem : I got the awc.dll error that said "misconfigured, please reinstall". I'm running XPsp3 on a quadcore with reasonable specs, though that doesn't seem to matter. And I also used this horrid d2d thingy found on EA's site. Fix your damn code, guys! You've had months to do so, and it's costing you money.

If you clear out the EACore_App.ini file (located in c:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\EACore_App.ini), and then launch the game from the launcher, it should work. Prior to doing this, wipe ME2 completely off your machine (make sure it isn't around in Program files or My docs, etc). Then do a full install of adobe air, and proceed normally with the lengthy register/download/install process.

I was caught off guard when it actually worked. I intend to complain loudly to EA tomorrow and demand a full refund, or I will call my bank and issue a stop payment. Beyond that I will advise my friends and family not to purchase from them in the near or distant future. As I was a big fan of the first game, I may buy ME2 when it's in the bargain bin at best buy. But I will not ever use EA's download service again, and I'll strongly consider never buying another product from them.

Why should we/I have to jump through all these hoops? I think we have a class Action lawsuit my friends. We paid for for something that did not work and it was from no negligence or abuse of our doing. I have downloaded numerous games from D2D and EA and this is the first time I am totally frustrated and I feel that I have been wronged. The only "solution" I see is clear out some .ini file? Download Adobe whatever then delete and re-download? Whatever EA. How many other people have had this problem? who can WE call to fix this? Scrolling through EA forums is clearly not the answer.

I had no problems running this game as soon as I downloaded it from EA Store. But then I had to format my PC and, after trying to install it again from a backup (running the executable straight from the backup folder), got this same awc.dll issue. Following the directions given in this and a couple other threads, tried to uninstall the game and then re-install it from the install button in EA download manager (meanwhile, I updated Adobe AIR, but it didn't work either). Then it worked.
