I can't seem to make the game recognize my 360 controller. I don't like playing this game with keyboard and mouse, number 1 had controller support o_O

Am I just blind?

ME1 did not have controller support, and neither does ME2.

Your only choice will be using third party software.

I don't understand why you're arguing against me, when I just loaded up ME1 and I'm able to use my 360 controller.

My question is why was that removed from Number 2. It was convenient. This game is awkward on a keyboard and mouse.

ME1 did not have in game controller support, and the third party software along with editing some files makes it work pretty well, but not great.

I'm irritated that ME2 does not have it, especially not having one for the 360 controller since they obviously already have the format done on the 360 itself. I just assume it is a copyright issue with Microsoft or something.

Xpadder works well on ME1, but it isn't fun to set up. ME2 I won't be able to try till I get home.

My ME1 on PC does not let me use the Xbox360 controller without third party software.

Are you guys on crack.. ME1 does let you use the controller, look at Danis. We're the only two here that have our heads screwed on right.

Why was ME2 denied the controller feature?

That means nothing to me, because I can look at the binding layout for the controller in game right now.

Now I'm curious. When did you purchase/install ME1? Because there is plenty of evidence that it does not work with ME1 without assistance. Maybe they updated/changed it very recently.

The only thing I know of is some guy modding the xbox360 control scheme in.. but Opty87 should know if he had done that..

Are you in the US Opty87 or danis79? It could be a international copyright issue, though I thought Microsoft was omnipresent.

Im in canada. I plug in my 360 controller and it automatically detects it when I start the game, and all the keymapping is 100% identical to the 360 version.

Try doing a little searching around.. anywhere online.

You have an entire internet to correct on this issue.

No it's not because ME1 had more buttons on PC.

People have had this issue for about 18 months and somehow you are magically immune up in Canada. I must say I am very jealous.

I wonder if Bioware might respond to this and say why.

Turns out my memory is malfunctioning. Just reinstalled mass effect and applied the latest patch, controller doesn't work. Funny that I have a clear memory of ME being the first game I tried my 360 controller on and that it made driving the mako easier. I must be turning mad.

this is the unofficial patch, guy who created it doesn't seem to be on this board which is a shame.

Wish he was around to work on ME2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took him an evening to add in support (including xbox menus and vibration) into MEPC which shows how easy it would be for Bioware to do it!!! Its pretty poor that they havent if you ask me.

Sh*t...

I asked about the 360 controller on the old forums and I was told it would be fine.

Now, I get home, install the thing and find out I have to use the keyboard. Unbelievable.

open all INI files (in hex editor only! this is imortant) from ME 2 installation folder and search for JoystickEnable or something like this it would be equal to 0 or False, change it to 1 and true (since its in hex mode u will have remaining letter E after True, replace it with SPACE aka 20 in hex) there are few places in INi and u should repeat that in all places. When u finish dont forget to check that you INI file is still of same size in bytes it was before editiong or game will not start if it will be different.

When u will have this done u would be able to map all buttons from controller right in game, but unfortunatly when u will back to menu, on attempts to save new ini in save folder game will crash, to prevent it u need to do PLACEHOLDER , create 2nd set of Keyboards (so game would save every command slot in ini) and after this just manualy replace all the Keyboard buttons names with regular xbox 360 buttons name that present almost in every Unreal powered games (like XboxTypeS) or with Joy if u have some generic gamepad.

U can use ME 2 inis from Xbox 360 disk as reference for correct mapping.

This native unofficial semi-support is better than any profiler, but only in case if u you could map everything correct in INI.

Aslo i suggest to find Aimassist or Aimhelp values in any and also set them to TRUE (dont forget about filesize and hex editor).

Well i started to this and have some 1st results, but havent had time to discover everything i need and finish it.

Also i dont have 360 version and cant get 360 INIs form ME 2 anywhere (well i dont want to DL 10 gb iso just to get few kbs of INIs for legitimate game i have).

IF anyone have xbox 360 version Please send me all INI files from it! To do this u will need to get tool for xbox 360 image extraction (since DVD for 360 have non usual file system and if u will put it in PC dvd ROM u will able to see only short video which says that this DVD not for PC).

Man, I'm way too ignorant when it comes to computers to try all of that without accidently damaging the whole game in the process. I don't even know what an INI file IS!...

I don't have that, all I have is the wireless Xbox controller for the PC and the installation disk that comes with it.(unless that's what you were talking about..? That has that on it?)

Sigh... I'm probably better off just getting third party software.. Bioware sucks!

Given that Mass Effect 2 is very different from Mass Effect 1, I take it that patch is completely useless for us right?

I'm certainly not sticking it in unless I know it's not going to f**k up my game.

NO! its for Mass Effect 1, i was just referencing it in light of the debate over if ME1 had support (it didnt!!). Sorry if i confused anyone!

They are different indeed but with the ini compliers about similar files are there behind the data (ie BIOinput.ini, BIOgame.ini etc) so i would think it is possible in the same way just a matter of figuring out the commands in ME2 compared to ME1.
