My mage inquisitor that is andrastian was my most fulfilling play through. Financing Cass only added to its interest due to the fact I was a mage and she a seeker.

Wouldn't it also be interesting to play as a mage who allys the templars in order to extend an olive branch so to speak?

Also it'd be interesting for a non-Mage or a Human non-Mage, who's family is close to the Chantry and even expected to be a Templar, to ally with the Mages. Extend the Olive Branch between Mages and the Common People.

No cons afaik. The circle mage is pretty relevant to the story's events, look good in all the armor and little things like that, etc..  The cons, personally, for the other humans is I feel a little pigeonholed by their age range in the description. It's hard not to read into it as them being young. Not a bad thing.. I just feel limited.

Hmmmm that's true.

Exactly, the fact that you are still not part of the chantry makes you feel as though you are super young. The circle mage definitely feels the most at place.

That's what I got out of it too. OTOH, I guess I could play some chantry brother (rather than Templar recruit) twiddling his thumbs for years...never reaching his real potential until the Breach. I had a backstory for a guy like this. He's like Sebastian a little.. except he entertains kids by juggling knives.

Oh definitely. It adds a ton more to the playthrough, especially once you get a specialization. I had a blast as a Tal Vashoth Mage, which of course made things much more interesting in terms of how I was received.

It also makes Corypheus more interesting as an antagonist.

I like the Old Magic vs New Magic in battle over the soul of Thedas theme. He has his dragon; you have yours. He has Calpernia; you have Morrigan.

For him to have Calpernia however, don't you need to complete Champions of the just?
