gotta agree with the male voice... but that's only because i modeled my trevelian mage after Edward Kenway from AC4.  granted, i've sorta gotten use to it after over 100 hours of playing this particular run-through. i've stopped thinking of him as Edward from AC4 and now as Edward from DAI.  B)

It would be hilarious if my elf rogue had a ned (chav) accent. "Awright, mucker? Geeze a swatch o' yur ginger or ah'll pure stab you!"

I know what you mean. Even Sera's accent and language is wierd.....the cockney 'innit' mixed in with the northern accent, just doesnt make sense.

This is what you have to expect from US made games though. They just dont get it.

Bioware is US? Holy sh1t. I didn't know we annexed canada.

See what I did there?

Although I REALLY prefer the English accents over the American ones, it seemed way out of place for my Dalish Mage (female). Way too refined and proper. Something edgier and with character. A nice Welsh or Scottish accent would have worked for me.

My female Qun has the English accent... it really doesn't fit.

Still, beats listening to "Fran Drescher on crack" or whatever it was.

The Inquisitor should have been some gutter rat from a Denerim slum. Complete with this accent:

Corypheus: Tell me...where is your Maker now? Call him! Call down his wrath upon me. You cannot. For he does not exist.

Inquisitor: You are bang out o' order, you f--king mug. I'm going to have to give you a dray slap, son.

I'd like to hear more Welsh (not exactly like Merrill... just love the accent in general).

Yeah, when I heard they were having Eve Myles play Merrill I was so excited.  I have such a crush on her from Torchwood.

*welsh...

and they are good welsh accents, actually

You are wrong there.

Most of the NPC Dalish Elves sport a northern Irish accent, I've heard two or three southern Irish. Very few of them are Welsh.

Well, that has to be because there's also a rift in Cardiff. Gulping up all the Welsh people so they had to substitute with the Irish.

I had no problem with the poshness of the British male accent, per se... but I just think it lacks gravitas. Hawke's male voice is almost as posh, but it sounds amazing in comparison. British DAI male is too plummy.

But yes, the America voices are too deep ( especially the male voice ) and the British voices a bit too posh. They're both too unique to fit the wide range of characters you can create in the CC. There really needs to be 1 or 2 more voice options that are a bit more neutral. Especially given the wide range of accents in game. As for not being able to find actors, the multiplayer characters have a really wide range of accents and personalities. So they must have found at least some.

I wouldn't say the American female voice is too deep. She sounds like me. I'm from the Northeast US and the accent is spot-on. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kathleen Turner sounding female voice...sooo sexy. If you don't know who Kathleen Turner is, she voiced Jessica Rabbit.

I play all female characters and I use the different voices depending on the type of character I want to play. The "stock" human/elf voice can sound too "froo froo" to me when I'm trying to roll an aggressive character.

For example, I posted videos of my "aggressive" rogue character who uses the American accent. She delivers these scenes perfectly in my opinion. They would have fallen flat if she used the standard voice:

I think people need to learn the difference between 'inspired by' and 'a direct copy'. Not everything needs to line up 100% with our world and the nations and peoples that inspired ones in the Dragon Age universe.

Whaaaat how did you get that cutscene with her wearing actual armor and not the "skyhold pajamas" is that scene weird like that?\

EDIT: Wait it can't be cause you are on an Xbox console and she was even wearing the armor before she entered the room... whaaaaat?

EDIT 2: Ah I found out how to do it! :D

I haven't played too much with the female VAs yet. But I do agree that in general the American VAs tend to lend a lot more gravitas to scenes than the British ones do. Having listened to both male VAs now for 30+ hours or so each there's a pretty big difference in delivery and inflection at times. There's even some stray dialogue here and there that is actually different which surprised me.

I don't play on Xbox - I just use the supported wireless controller with my PC.  :D

I use CheatEngine to be able to wear armor in Skyhold.

I don't think there are more than two voices for each gender, regardless of race, and the majority of the rest of the in game voices are supposed to be French as far as I could tell. In Orlais anyway. The male voices are both bad, and badly recorded in a lot of cases. The character animations are the same for all characters, per response, and look very much like naive children in most cases early on. Pretty pathetic; distractingly so. Enough to take you right out of the story, and make you wander off to do something else. Me anyway.

Male voices could use better recording for sure. More options would be nice, but I actually got away with the 'noble tones' for my playthrough character because I made him look the part. It was tough to get through the initial scenes. Actually, they really did a terrible job on that start up. Until you get past Val Royeaux, it's pretty much just terrible.

The female cultured voice is actually good, on a female elf. Looks right, and is actually well acted and recorded I think. Not sure about the other one. The females look a bit manly; especially with the animations. The elves, even without, no matter what you do to make them look female.

I think the elves were supposed to be gawky teenagers or something, the Humans mid-twenties people, and the Qunari buff, steroid cases. I'm not sure what the Dwarves were supposed to be, except maybe over 30-ish working people. Seems very much like they targeted player types and made each race fit one. Not exactly how you would expect that to work.

The male elf, I will mention again, looks absolutely ridiculous.

My two cents: Sumalee's voice is the sex. That is all.

This exactly. Male British voice sounds very prissy to me. So does the female British voice. It's hard to take them seriously, whereas the American VAs do lend more gravitas to their lines.

I can't believe all the hate for Sumalee. She is amazing. She voiced Nyreen in the Omega DLC for ME3. How can you not like her?! lol

welsh and most of the voice actors for the main character elves are welsh. like solas'

*welsh...

and they are good welsh accents, actually

Only just seen these, and maybe it's because i've woken up in a foul mood but excuse me!

I am half irish, raised in England, spent 10 years living in Wales. Think I can tell the difference.

The Welsh accents are excellent (probably because it is such a hard accent to emulate they had to use actual Welsh VA's) but some are indeed Irish, mostly fake Irish, and mostly awful.
