I'm neither UK or US, I'm French... and I speak English with a sort of US accent.

I went back and forth between the two male voices and the US accent had a deep tone that just didn't suit my character. In fact, the American VA's voice is so deep I thought it was a black man's. Then I googled Jon Curry and thought "wtf"...

I've ended up using the male American voice for my Qunari/dwarves and elves (the latter for teh lulz, really >.>) and the British voice for Trevelyan, since his background seems to be the only one to merit it.

On the female side, I always play with the British voice (though my first female playthrough, a Qunari, used her voice). For whatever reason, the pitch of the American voice gets to me after a while, and I literally have to concentrate hard to hear what she's saying. I have very sensitive hearing, so I suspect it's just 'one of those things'. I can hear a lot of things other people can't hear, pitch-wise, so I think she just speaks at a pitch that my brain has to work at to register fully. I had the same problem with Mark Meer in ME (mostly ME1, less so in the ME2/ME3 for some reason).

This exactly. Male British voice sounds very prissy to me. So does the female British voice. It's hard to take them seriously, whereas the American VAs do lend more gravitas to their lines.

I can't believe all the hate for Sumalee. She is amazing. She voiced Nyreen in the Omega DLC for ME3. How can you not like her?! lol

I'm sorry, but I just can't hear this gravitas you're talking about. I've fnished the game with a Human female who uses the British voice and am currently playing an Elf female with the British voice and a Qunari female with the American voice. They're quite close to eachother in progress so whenever I hear the Qunari speaking after I just did the same part with the Elf I just almost fall asleep. I find her such a snoozefest. I had hoped it would get better as I would progress through the game as the British voice did for me. But she just doesn't. I keep wondering what her intent is whilst she talks. Is she happy? Sad? Angry? I can't tell. And it's not the depth of her voice that is offputting, as I quite like deep female voices most of the time. But she's just so very bland. All I hear is a heartmonitor flatlining. And as I've said before elsewhere, she rivals Mark Meer for blandness.
But of course, this is just my own personal opinion.

The British male voice is ok...it's just the voice acting & delivery is atrocious.

Whoever was directing the clips should be shot with ball of his own shyte!

Heres the thing I don't get, the dalish have an Walt Disney irish accent, but if you play the quizzzy as a dalish elf you become a brit, or a American  WTF biowware, ???. They were lazy in the voice choices much like the 8 hair choices you get, and 5 of them are of the bald nature :).

I'm British and my inquisitor is human male. I think the male british accent in this game is terrible, so whiny and stuck up. It is possible to have a neutral southern accent (like mine), it doesn't have to be a heavy regional accent or a posh one where "one must have a cup of tea".

So I went for the american accent. It's quite deep, but I got used to it. My inquisitor at least doesn't sound like some mummy's-boy spoiled brat though

I am Italian. My company has an office in England (South East area) and one in LA. I got pretty good at picking up UK accents, not so good with the American ones.
In this game, I prefer the british voice actors to the american ones, but it has to do more with pitch than with the accent itself. I think the american ones are too deep, and I kind of see them as suited for Qunari only.

The british accent doesn't sound too posh to me - actually, I am happy they went for a slightly posh BBC accent: I think it fits very well.

To people complaining about other accents, I was surprised about this.  I thought Solas Welsh accent and overall voice acting was beautiful.

EDIT: hopefully my statement above doesn't sound creepily fan-girlish to Welsh people: I think the mix between accent, delivery, and the way the lines are written is very musical - that's it.

By the way, I got a little traumatized in my first playthrough as I had the "customized Hawke" bug and my character's voice chainged abruptly from the English one to the US one. I had to roll back to a previous save and picked a "standard Hawke" to keep the voice I had chosen for my Inquisitor.

I can't play with the American one it's just to flat and monotonous an Irish accent would have been amazing but the English wasn't to bad.

Actually I much prefer the female british accent to the american. The american accent sounds so wooden when I chosoe the diplomatic responses. I cringed when the american accent said "I'm pleased to make your acquaintance." Sounded like a bloody robot!

It's weird how we all have different perceptions of the same voices, because for me the British female sounds like a robot. lol

I've found that the british voice can sound really awkward saying the direct lines, but lovely when being pleasant.

It's like they were both told 'Okay your range is for the pleasant/agressive options, and every other line must be neutral."

Yeah, I feel like it's the directing not the actual voice acting that wasn't up to par. Because I like all of the actual voices. Just sometimes they sound so wrong for what they are saying.

I'll give you that point.

Sometimes I just have to cringe, turn down the sound and read the subtitles, lol.

The male American VA is actually surprisingly good whenever he needs to be dramatic, emotional or sarcastic/witty/grandstanding in the imperial court.

I live in the UK and I really don't have an issue with any of the voices.
