hi, i just need to clarify some things.

i've been playing for awhile now and im still not sure what are the duties or obligations of the chantry people, besides being the "government" that has a military force (templars) that tries to spread a religion and imprison "violent criminals" (mages).

are all the chantry members female? are they allowed to have relationships or are they what i think they all are; virgin nuns?

so how is the Divine different from the rest? or is she just the head nun?

because im so not letting my romance, cassandra, near that thing again and denying all options of her being the next divine if thats the case

The divine is always female as are the priests, reverent mothers, grand clerics. Men can become brothers, chanters, seekers, Templars and make up the bureaucrats of the chantry. I think the highest placements men can get are High Seeker, Knight-Vigilant Knight-divine and High Chancellor and the firs three are outside the normal chain of the chantry's hierarchy answering only to the divine.

I would assume, that once they become members of the Chantry, sisters/mothers/etc. are supposed to devote their lives to serving the Maker. At least I can't recall anyone having an official relationship, which doesn't mean of course that they can't have an unofficial one. As for the virgin bit that really varies from person to person since you can commit to the Chantry at any point in life. Divine Justinia for one is said to have led a colorful life before taking her vows. The same goes for whichever person becomes Divine after her.

From what I've heard, the Divine has to take a vow of celibacy due to the fact that Andraste was betrayed by her husband so the Divine never has a lover due to this.

They never get married, but that doesn't stop the Divine from having lovers on the side. I believe there was something that said that there are instances where the Divine has a lover amongst the Knights-Divine.

We know Chantry priests can't marry, but Templars can, with permission.
