It feels like a goodbye, doesn't it?

Dragon Age Inquisition went out of its way to try and answer nearly every question and tie nearly every loose thread native to the South of Thedas.

Where is the Warden?

In the West, trying to end the Calling.

What happened to Hawke?

It varies depending on whether you sided with mages or Templars in DA2 but s/he ends up dead missing in the North.

What does Morrigan plan? Where is she?

She insinuates herself into the Orlesian Court and seeks to preserve ancient wonders for their own sake.

She has also become a devoted mother in certain playthroughs.

What is the Old God Baby?

A mostly normal young boy who loves his mom and dad and is wise beyond his years.

He was never Urthemiel's souls but rather its vessel and after losing it, chances are he was deprived of his destiny too.

What is Flemeth? What does she want?

A human woman to whom the remnants of the elven goddess Mythal came to and took refuge in.

She seeks to avenge Mythal.

Show now appears to have met a Final Death, thus ending a figure of folklore that has haunted the South for centuries.

What happens to Cassandra or Leliana?

They become important figures in the Inquisition; undergo their own character arcs; and can even become Divine.

What happens to the mages, Templars and Chantry?

Depending upon the actions of the Inquisition, the Circle and Order can return with reforms or an independent College of Enchanters can work on finding new solutions to the age old question of what is to be done with magic.

The Chantry too will undergo reforms but not always bloodlessly.

It's not an ending because life never ends but you play a role in all of this.

What are the Seekers?

Remnants of the old Inquisition that gave themselves superhuman powers by becoming Tranquil and being cured through spirits of Faith. They can be dissolved or reformed.

What about the elves, Orlais and its rumors of war with Ferelden?

These rumors can come to pass or be avoided altogether depending on the Inquisition's skill at negotiating a settlement.

An elf can even become the real power behind the Imperial Throne.

What are the Eluvians?

Ancient elven portals that allowed one to travel between Eluvians.

With all of this, it seems that Bioware has answered most of the question that haunted us, wrapped up most of the story arcs of the characters that have been with us for more than one and allowed us to interfere with most social conflicts native to the South.

It seems unlikely that we will ever see these characters again as we venture to the North of Thedas. Hence why, in this game, it feel as if we're saying goodbye to Morrigan and Leliana and Cassandra and Flemeth, to Templars and mages, etc.

Feels like it opens up a path to new beginnings. New countries. There is always the Qun.

I, for one, am ecstatic about that.

Tevinter, Seheron, Anderfels... something new.

Rifneno:  The dwarves and their relation to Tevinter seem very capable of answering that question.

Nope.

It doesn't feel like a goodbye.

But I think they covered their ***, just in case.  :P  And I think that was well done.

I think they are trying to wrap up loose ends, but not in a goodbye sort of way.    More like a "We are leaving this region of the world and don't want to have to rehash all of these threads in the next game again" sort of way.

Lets be honest..   Loose threads should rarely keep perpetuating beyond a game or two.  This is especially true in a series with a different protagonist and story from game to game.   If the next game is going to Tevinter or Antiva, or Rivain,  do you really want them to have to drag along old character 1000s of miles away from where they should be to try to answer old questions?

You don't know a lot about the lore if you think they answered every question.

If you say so.  If it even is a dwarven thaig (many things point to elven origin), then the dwarves of today don't know jack about it.  Probably something to do with being a bunch of runted dirt worshippers who strike unpleasant stuff from their records.

I expect the start of entirely new story/land going forward.  They probably feel they have exhausted the whole chantry drama.

I didn't say "every question", I said most of those that could only be addressed in the South.

There are, of course, plenty of questions left and this game even created more by introducing things like "the elven pantheon existed" but these can be answered, for instance, if we discover the ruins of Arlathan which were in the North.

The point is that it feels we are saying goodbye to the South and the characters native to it.

And hopefully so! I hope the next game only references a couple of things in codices, but aside from that startrs mostly anew and fresh, without much baggage dragging the story and narrative down (like endless cameos from the entire previous cast and such things - I especially look at you, ME3 over there, in the corner of eternal shame! Yes, you!)

It actually dumped a whole lot more in our laps... bigger ones, much much bigger ones. Which I love.

This is all about giving the devs, and us, a pretty blank slate for DA4. New Region, Minimal if any Cameos, and fewer lingering plot threads. The very idea makes me really excited, I gotta say.

It's not goodbye until every single loose end has been tied up.

Basic RPG logic.

And we got a LOOOOOOOT of questions to go.

I'm not excited, what's the point of making decisions if they just gona restart anyway?

Because companions traveling north is impossible? I would say most won't, but we will have a returning companion and I don't see us being done with Morrigan and Flemeth or solas.

My vote is for Dorian and Shale if its a Tevinter-setting, but no more than 2 recurring chars as companions

It's not but, beyond Solas, most of these characters either have very permanent jobs that make sense as the conclusion to their arcs (Leliana), have had most questions about them answered (Morrigan) or are likely dead (Flemeth).

I think the best exemple is Kieran. The OGB has been one of BIG mysteries of DA and yet, also one of the most difficult to answer because he might not even exist at all.

So, in this game, they bring him in only to have the Old God's Soul given to a character that will always exist with Morrigan even remarking that Kieran's destiny passed to Flemeth.

I would be amazed if we ever saw him again in any meaningful role.

Well there is still the possible pending civil war in Narevarra, the warden civil war or alternatively disappearance of the wardens in the Anderfells and of course Tevintor so there is plenty to deal with in the north while the south is pretty well concluded and will be busy with the Inquisition and the states down there dealing with the remaining clean up from the civil war, demons and cultists.

Actually, to me it felt like the game was a bridge to DA4; a remaking of the face of Thedas where the Dragon Age was ending and a new age was beginning full of new questions, new trials, new politics, and generally a new era waiting to unfold.  If anything, Inquisition felt like an advertisement for coming attractions.
