If there is to be one ever, how long do we need to wait until the controls get improved?

I've had this game 1 month now & cant play it until these controls get improved... please make it soon if you are ever planning to.

Or is this game to be tossed along with all the other bad console ports I foolishly bought.

Yours sincerely

A disgruntled PC gamer

BioWare said, somewhere, that PC improvements, controls and interface alike, are on their to-do list. Don't think they gave us an ETA, however.

It is playable with KB&M. Just go ahead, stick to it and have a ranged character.

Many problems can be solved by pausing and shifting back and forth from tactical.

But: - Yes!  - Please, Bioware.  :crying:

A fast turnaround on something as complicated as changes to the control scheme was never in the cards. Adjust your expectations.

That said, the current controls are fine. Yours sincerely, a very happy PC gammer.

I don´t play games to struggle with the controls (fraking muscle memory) because somebody up the dev chain was too lazy to bother. This is the worst I´ve seen since Resident Evil 4 had no mouse input.

Fair enough. It's probably the worst I've ever bothered with. It's a disgrace.

But the game is worth the effort, IMO. Definitely, if you already have purchased it.

I have to agree with the others. It takes patience, but eventually you will get use to the controles and oh my... it is worth the trouble .-)

And I am a mage. I figured it was the easiest way to get to know the controls. And even though they might not change the controls, I am used to them know, so I am definitley going to be a rouge in my next playthrough.

Gotta love the PC master race people not being able to play a great game like DAI because....mouse and KB.

Honestly, I tried to use M&K. Probably too hard, even, because I was a happier person the moment I plugged my PS4 controller on.

The PC race doesn't care. They'll just go play Original Sin if they want the latest and greatest RPG.

Shoddy controls from console game developers are nothing new to a PC gamer. They expect dysfunction from games like this, or Witcher 3. Or whatever else is coming down the pipe on console. The ones who are shocked and surprised by it, simply haven't been gaming long enough. I feel bad for them, but they'll catch on, in time.

Look at the PC gamers who bought Dark Souls before realizing it required a Windows Xbox controller to function properly. That kind of stuff only needs to happen to someone once before they realize what's going, and stop purchasing.

Thing is, it's not hard to pass on purchasing a console game. None of them are great games. They are all just Xeroxes of one another. A simple, quick, easy fix of punch-button fun. That's all they are, and all they'll ever be.

You know what you're getting when you buy a console game. It's the same every time.

From Mordor, to Creed. From Dragon Age, to the Witcher. It's all Kraft dinner.

This is a problem until the modders are able to tease the game apart and fix it.  Like the bad hair and the Skyhold pajamas.  Modders are making progress on both right now.  That is why playing on console is for dirty peasants.  They will live forever with their 50 kinds of bald and their beige PJs.  We only have to endure these things until a mod comes out to fix it.

Its not great but I don't think its that bad, it helps a lot if you keybind. I changed

search to Z

Pause to Alt

Tac cam move left to A and right to D

Its only small changes but to me it feels pretty good.

my only problem is that the tac cam doesnt zoom out enough but other than that it plays well.

I think the PC complaints are overstated. I don't like the menus - they're complete **** for a PC game. But they're not worse than DA2 or ME.

Controls in combat are not ideal but IMO they're fine. My issues with combat controls are VERY different from most I wager because of how I play.

AI tactics are crap and its a loss but that's not related to PC

I'd like to have auto-attack on regular view for me to even play 2-handed warrior. And I'd really like to play 2-handed warrior.

But I've used keyboard and mouse on a Sword and Shield Warrior and it was okay once you get use to it. I don't use Tactical view, and play mostly in real time.

The Ranged characters are also okay. You should be fine playing them on PC.

I don't play DW rogue as optimally as I would like but that's doable too.

Yep, that's what I've been doing. I've given up on DAI until they fix the controls. Steam sale is on, so I've been playing Divinity: Original Sin, The Banner Saga, and Valkyria Chronicles.

The kb+m controls are not great but Bioware has said that they are looking into it. I just use a controller. I think every PC gamer should have a controller for console ports.

Or how about the issue with the tac cam bouncing around from companion to companion, which they stated would be optional in the release version and then stated would be fixed in the first patch.

As a life-long PC gamer and owner of about 300 titles of various genres - I don't have any real issue with DA:I controls at all. Not sure what all the fuss is about. The tactical camera management is a bit weird, but I feel like this action-RPG has no need for it anyway. Don't use it.

As for everything else - the KB&M controls are similar to what countless other games are like as-well. Not sure what people have issues with...

Is it better with a controller? Beats me. Never used one. Perhaps.

I used to want to be able to use auto-attack all the time, but given the range limitations of auto-attack I no longer want that.

The controls are fine as they are. The only thing really missing is an auto-move to interact (loot, open doors, talk). That we have to manually run up to things to use them is silly.

But I don't have other significant complaints. It would be nice if the Tac Cam didn't get stuck on terrain, but that it does isn't a fatal flaw. It would be nice if the Tac Cam could tilt freely, but the terrain can often be exploited to mitigate that deficiency. Everything else I might wish were different (like the need to jump to get places) is clearly a design decision, and not going to be fixed by a change to controls or UI.

I find auto-attack to have more issues when it comes to the MMO style design of several of the boss fights, particularly the dragons. They're a microcosm of the DA2 Legacy DLC fight. And that was a war against shoddy pathfinding.

I wonder if that's what people mean when they decry the MMO design.

I spent years playing MMOs, but my insistence on soloing them meant I never once faced a proper boss fight.

I wouldn't call it completely impossible but I'm avoiding melee classes until something gets done. If something gets done. I have reservations.
