Hello, folks!

Well, as I've bought the game while being in Russian Federation, all I have of language options is Russian. Weird, but as I speak Russian a bit it's sort of 'will do' matter.

However the quality of the translation to the Russian language is ... awful. Even I can see that at least a bunch of elements that were translated so wrong that those make no sense at all.

Let's take the Paragon's Luster, which has a clear meaning of someone who is tempting some Paragon (a good guy) into lust. It was translated into "Люстра Совершенного", which means "Icon's Candelier" (Candelier that belongs to someone perfect).

Are other localizations this bad?

Is there a way to switch to something that doesn't require breaking your mind getting into things? English should do nice I think. Or at least French (as I do speak it a little).

Paragon's Luster has nothing to do with lust though. Luster is the state or quality of shining by reflecting light; glitter, sparkle, sheen, or gloss: the luster of satin. a substance, as a coating or polish, used to impart sheen or gloss.

When I started the game the first time I expected a cringe-worthy german localisation but for once Origin/EA got it right and I got the english version right from the start. Which is why I have no idea how to change languages manually (I know there's an option in the menu).

For ME3 it was in some *.ini file... the question is, does your russian version even contain the english (voice) files?

The translation was poor to be sure.  Your English seems good can you use the DLC english voice over pack?  There is likely a similar one for French.

My copy has no language options, but it could be the DLC overriding the feature.

I got that little joke - thanks for the chuckle.  After a while of staring at code is like the "Matrix" Blonde, Brunette, Redhead- clearly a sign that you've been at it too long.  The tools for modding this game are all third party and they do evolve with the industry, but strafing though code is how you start tailoring them to a new game.

Take care

Just another thing to bring up.

Ones sick guys that made russian locals translated Cartha into "Хартия", that is a sort of a public agreement on something. However the most fitting choice would be "Картель", which goes after union of businessmen that don't mind crime.

How could be the translators this blind?

As a person who happens to translate video games for a living (not AAA projects though, sadly), I'd say it really depends on how the process is organized and if the text the actual translators get is formatted in any way. I mean, I sometimes got text simply alphabetized without any sort of grouping or reference, and believe me, it's basically impossible to translate it all correctly in this case.

Still, you'd think, when translating the third installment of a well-known franchise, the translator would have a thought to use the wiki of the game. Unfortunately, not everyone cares enough.

Also, testers/QA play a large part in any given localization. While the shitty Chinese browser games I translate often don't get any, any big projects are supposed to go through this, in theory. Stuff like "Хартия" should definitely have been found and eliminated.

Paragon's Luster has nothing to do with lust though. Luster is the state or quality of shining by reflecting light; glitter, sparkle, sheen, or gloss: the luster of satin. a substance, as a coating or polish, used to impart sheen or gloss.

Yep, that's right, however, "Люстра" is literally a chandelier, so this phrase still makes zero sense as a name of a metal. Or maybe they meant it as a metaphor? Still, weird choice.

Oh. Another example to admire.

August Ram was translated into russian as "Баран августы", which i can't really refer to anything. It must be like 'A ram that belongs to Augusta (female name)'  with a misplaced capital in the name.

However August here refers to 'Magnificent', and it is clearly so it should be like 'Величественная лань' (because it doesn't look like ram anyways).

This like what looks like what is never a factor in the translation, you basically never see the graphics, only the text, especially considering that most major releases are pre-translated before the game is out.

But yeah, I've heard lots of times DA localization is awful (and your examples seem to prove it). I think there's a way to download a patch with English text, however.

If you give a link on that you will save tons of nerves East of Poland.

Sorry, no idea. I'm playing an US version on PS3, personally.

Is the English Voice Over Pack DLC available to you in Origin?

I'm using it. But as you know that doesn't fix the interface.

You should have four folders in "\Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32", those are "da3", "loc", "locfacefx" and "loctext". Inside each of the loc folders you need the "en.sb" and "en.toc" files for english localisation.

The same folders also exist in "\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\Data\Win32", only here I have more than just english. For the facefx I've got english, french and german. For the texts I've got all languages.

Maybe you can use that somehow? Perhaps get the english files from someone?

Probably... but I don't know if it'll be enough since that still won't allow you to actually switch to another language.

Edit: You're probably going to need the complete win32 folders and those are 3.11GB and 60MB.

Try to speak with the EA support, they should be able to help you get an english version...

Guess I can just rename the files and switch off the auto-update... Only thing is legal issue - to see if i'm not banned for it.
Please form 2 archives with those folders while I'm contacting support.

There is no way I can send you 3GB, sorry. I have ADSL with a max upstream of 512 kbit/s... it would take ages. Uploading only the smaller files won't help you, they are all connected...

Okay I think I'm trying out something. Support says you won't get banned for those. So here we begin our hunt.

Haha, DA:I is allright in portuguese, but DA:O surely wasn't!

They translated Darkspawn as "Feto Tenebroso", which would sound something like "Tenebrous Fetus" for an english native.
