I get the feeling that I triggered a bug. In short: Cullen is gone. I also know how I triggered it. Bad for me is just the fact that I realized it too late so I wasn't able to load an older savegame.

 

In Cullens storyline there is one dialogue which is if I remember it correctly triggered by a soldier in Cullens room. It's that one dialogue where Cullen is talking to Cassandra about his.. lyrium situation. I think I might have broken that dialogue which caused Cullen to disappear.

 

I'm pretty sure I broke it with Seras quest.. that one where you prank Josephine, Leliana and Cullen. When I was in there - with Sera - I saw this soldier and I talked to him. That banter between Sera and the Inquisitor in that room disrupted my dialogue with that soldier. After that I wasn't able to talk to him again.

 

Now he is just standing there in Cullens office and I'm not able to trigger Cullens dialogue with Cassandra again.

 

I don't think there is a workaround for this bug but I still thought you should know about it. Seras pranking quest can breake Cullens questline and make him disappear if this soldier is in his room during Seras quest..

Yet another bug... Sera's pranks sent junkie Cullen on a bender and he OD'd.

This bug occurred to me in my latest playthrough as well.

Sometimes there are delays, with the inner circle quests, they don't show up and often reappear far from their marker.  In your case, look around some of the likely places or travel and then look around to account for the delay - if you find him you should be able to activate the quest and clear the bug.

Thing is, there isn't a marker. This is a quest where the marker only appears from going through dialogue with an NPC. When that dialogue is interrupted, it can't be started again. The quest hasn't triggered. And it won't. Only by finding some way to access that dialogue or manually start the quest could the game continue.

I hit this one too. I kept thinking he'd turn up eventually, but I probably played another 40 hours after Sera's quest and only saw Cullen at the war table after that.

Crap, just had this happen to me in my current playthrough. I thought this crap was patched.

Okay, I'll be saving pulling pranks on Cullen for a future playthrough.  I wasn't planning on it this time, but I appreciate the heads up.  I also thought that Patch 2 took care of it and I'm sorry you guys ran into this.  

 

Are you on PC or console?  I'm curious to see if it's happening regardless of platform like before.  I I'm on PC myself.

I'm on PC.  I don't know if this one is platform specific.  I think showing up in Cullen's office in while in a scripted thing for Sera breaks the cutscene you're supposed to get for the person who's standing in Cullen's office.  After that, whenever you go back, you don't find Cullen and the NPC just stands there with no interaction possible.

Huh, I thought they fixed this. I'll have to be careful. Is it guaranteed to happen or is it hit/miss on this happening?

I think I hit it after patch 2 but I'm not positive.  I know it didn't magically get fixed after patch 2 because I completed my playthrough after that came out and was still never able to get the cutscene to trigger with the NPC in the office.

Not only this prank breaks Cullen's personal quest, but I can't finish Before the Dawn! Sheesh, when are we gonna get it fixed?

Are you sure Cullen is gone? Check the smithy, the building next to where Cassandra trains. The next part of Cullen's personal quest requires you to open one of the doors there.

He's gone.  I went everywhere in Skyhold.  If you miss the cutscene in Cullen's office, he just disappears.

Came back from a 6 month pause. Its June 2015 and still no fking fix for this game breaking bug. Well im not replaying 100h to see how it all ends. Hope the new Mass effect wont break like this, or im done with them.
