LOL, I don't play with FF on, so I haven't tried freezing the RO. Gotta do an FF playthru and try that... or static cage!
Is there a "Don't stand in a pool of fire until dead" skill available?

Well, I don't know if some of this should have been addressed in this thread http://forum.bioware...my-tactics-man/ But I couldn't agree more.
The A.I. is absolutely terrible in the game. It is masochism trying to kill dragons when you have 3 jerks in your party.
I'm still looking for the "gtfo of my way I'm trying to do a puzzle" skill.
There's one already. It is called the "stop" command bound to "K" by default. It's still not 100% useful, though.

It's the upgrade to the "Stand on the Table" skill. It allows them to stand on the tables even where there's no actual table to stand on.Really? I get the NPCs "Standing in midair" ability, my requisition officer was able to stand on my head in the Hissing Wastes.

I play on the Xbone and the "hold position" command does nothing.

I play on the Xbone and the "hold position" command does nothing.
When I was doing the Mythal puzzle last week, I noticed something.
My companions would stay put, until I had to mess with an interactive object (in this case, the lever.) Then, somehow, the hold command would stop working and they'd start running in. I'd have to command them to hold again, which would work until I hit the lever again. Rinse, repeat.

Hold position seems to work pretty reliably for me but only if it's first set in the tactical mode. If you then issue "Hold position" from the radial menu it appears to stick even after the tactical mode is closed (as opposed to everyone just going back to moving wherever they want as soon as the tactical mode is ended)I play on the Xbone and the "hold position" command does nothing.

Are you playing as a Qunari? After what happened in Kirkwall it is understandable that some people might be afraid of the Qunari. Or it could be a case of her suffering from PTSD. She is a veteran of the Battle of Ostagar after all.
Sorry, I understand it must be annoying, but it is quite hilarious too. Also, I am happy that there's a bug or a glitch or what you want to call it, that I am not having to deal with since I seem to have gotten pretty much everything else.
No, I was playing a female human rogue in my first PT and now I'm playing a male human warrior. It's especially fun in the Western Approach camp that is near the waterfall because there the requisition officer climbs on some rocks and walks behind the tents, through trees and bushes and around the corner of the cliff. So if I follow her, my 3 companions follow too and finally she has to turn around and then we all turn around and follow her, trying to not fall off the narrow ledge. ![]()
Sometimes, I lose sight of her and the next thing I know, she's in camp and we are still milling around on the rocks. ![]()
Something good is happening in this second PT. I'm getting a lot more banter than I did in the first PT (when I got almost none). ![]()

Yeah. I gave up on that one.
I gave up on the Mythal puzzle too because I couldn't keep my companions out of the way (on PC). On this new PT, I'm going to wait to do those puzzles when I'm well rested to see if I have the patience to slug through those puzzles with my companions (I got some of them, just not the one with the lever). ![]()

The puzzle really isn't bad with a little practice. I'm on PC as well. There is a really good video on youtube that I used to get through it. It's certainly more intimidating than it appears, and I'm not great with puzzles. I also found the payoff on a story level worth it.
What I did was do the first part, and hit the lever. All of the companions would end up/near on the gold square. They'll be out of your way in any case. Then I'd command them to hold, without using the tactical camera (I do everything I can do avoid it) and they'd stay out of my way. You have to hit the lever three times in order to complete the puzzle.
Sorry for the derail, but I hope it helps. ![]()

I started replaying DA2 recently. Despite its flaws, it's a pleasure to not have to worry so much about Varric, for instance. I was surprised to see how the AI handled ranged characters getting cornered (they use their skills to get away), and how they *stay* away from melee as much as possible. After DA:I, I had forgotten what it feels like to have a functional party AI.

I'd put skill points in that, along with "Don't get stuck behind a small stone on the ground." and "Defending Dorian doesn't mean you stand around doing nothing until he gets hit."
So this! I play a mage and set IB or another heavy hitter to act as my bodyguard and all they do is stand around during the fight doing nothing until I get my butt handed to me. ![]()
It wasn't like that before. I could set Fenris up to protect me and he would dash head first into the fight then leap over to smash anyone coming after me.

I just run into this puzzle yesterday, and it seems to me that you aren't actually supposed to use companions with this one -- in tactical mode you can't even make them enter the area with the lever, if they wind up there on their own it's just because they wander around. The puzzle really isn't bad with a little practice. I'm on PC as well. There is a really good video on youtube that I used to get through it. It's certainly more intimidating than it appears, and I'm not great with puzzles. I also found the payoff on a story level worth it.

You have to hit the lever three times in order to complete the puzzle.
The solution to the puzzle is much simpler, doesn't require any external help and you only need to use the lever once. The actual trick is to start on the tiles from the mid platform, instead of the stairs. The route is two loops with the lever platform inside, forming figure 8 when seen from above. So what you do is complete the bottom loop first, the one towards the stairs, then hit the lever, then complete the other loop that's originally blocked by the fence. Easy, fast and with no companion frustration involved.
edit: and then I watched the linked video. Yeah, that's pretty much what I was talking about.

Yup, on that part I had no problem with DA 2 even I missed a bit the advanced tactic mod of DAO, at least I was not screaming at my screaming ^^

Reading all this I must have another copy of Dragon Age: Inquisition than anyone else.
Granted I avoided the KB&M controls from the start since I own a Xbox controller since Dark Souls.
I have more than 100 hours playtime and no trouble with Sera, Varric or any of my mages going all tank/melee mode. I played on hard for the most time and the only trouble were dragon fights were they tended to die from the dragons AOE and flyby attacks. Occasionally one of ranged rogues get's downed by an enemy archer.
all my rogues have Stealth and Evade set as a priority so I guess that helps. My mages favour Fade Step, Barrier and if specced Mind Blast while my tanks have every Taunt Skill and the Shield Block set to preferred. I myself played with a 2handed Qunari warrior which I controlled like 80% of the time.
I also had no trouble with the Temple of Mythal puzzle. I just ran over the tiles completly ignoring my companions and the game seemed to agree with me and ignored them as well.
The other puzzle that is in the Exalted Plains was a bit more tricky. I had to completly disable the AI to complete it.

I would like the "don't shield-bash mobs out of the fire trap" skill as well. Possibly with a "kite into the fire trap one single step to your right" as an upgrade.

It seems to me the companion AI is there only for the "tick". It's almost fuckіng useless all the time. Ranged characters 99% of the time run straight into the center of the mob.
- Has a torch? Just stands there doing nothing while the rest fight.
- Fire on the ground? Yeah, right into it and just stand there until you die.
- Completely random use of abilities (could be fixed manually if not for the incredibly cumbersome and almost useless tactical cam).
- Tactics and behaviors menus provide so little that you could do just fine without them.
- and more...

BRING BACK HIGH RESOLUTION TACTICS. Mages in DA:O and DA:2 with like 15 If-Then contingencies = great (usually). Whatever is happening now is pretty awful.
Don't even get me started on puzzles ("Oh, by hold your position on this button you mean follow you around after some unspecified amount of time? Great!")

Could also do with a 'contextual combat' skill.
Because when you're caught in a stream of dragon-fire, generally speaking when I press A I want you to jump out of the way, not bend down and start looting.
