How many Shards does it take in total to open all of the doors--all at once--at the Temple in the Forbidden Oasis? I was assuming that since it takes 6 shards to open the main door that it took the same amount to open all of the others: But, that isn't the case!?!

The elemental doors are 6, 12 and 18 (times three)

Gotta catch 'em all.

If you are finding it tedious, the prize for opening all the doors is elemental resistances. Unless you are playing on hard or nightmare, they aren't that big of a deal.

It's not.

I beat the game on hard just fine without ever using it.

Ok, so one reply is 114, the other is 36 times three, which totals 108. Which one is it?

Actually, it doesn't matter, will it be the total number of shards in EVERY map?

Haven't opened all doors, but I know the 6+12+18 progression per element is correct.

Also, it takes shards to open the main temple door; didn't check the number, but 6 shards to open the main temple door makes the numbers jive.

There seems to be a lot of wasteful nonsense in this game. It's bad enough scrounging around for herbs and metals without having to scrounge around for shards and mosaics. Mosaics are difficult to find and very hard to get most times--much like that one on top of the cave in the Hinterlands, near the farm. Moreover, trying to locate all of the landmarks are seemingly near impossible. They are extremely easy to miss because they blend in to the scenery so well. You can walk on by and not even see it--especially if you a busy scrounging for everything else and fighting at every turn.

As for scrounging for Herbs I would prefer to purchase them from some vendor--especially those that are very scarce and unseen--such as with the Prophet's Laurels. I despise the act of rinsing-and-repeating for anything--most especially for requisition items from enemies that you have already killed and are seemingly no longer available too attack and kill for the foolish dropped item(s). Plus, the requisition items are seemingly random at times. And, they too tend to rinse-and-repeat, which is asinine to say the least.

108 for the doors inside the Temple, + 6 for the main entrance = 114.

And yes, you will need to collect shards in every map in order to open all 3 doors.

is there a PC console cheat or something for the shards?
Some of the ones on roofs and stuff are just effing tedious to get at for M/KB-players - the climbing paths are uneven and you don't have the fine control on stuff like that as you do w a controller.

Collecting them because I am a completionist and want to have done every quest on Nightmare - I just finished on Hard without having been to the temple.

Thanks in advance :)

Even though there is a console available it is all for naught, because there are no current cheat codes available that I am aware of: Still, I keep looking for them. It seems, unlike Bethesda, EA/Bioware have become anti PC in every aspect from cheat codes to modding. They are stuck on creating console games only. Look how cumbersome it is to play DA:I on the PC with a mouse and keyboard!?! They only do it because they want the PC gamers money too.

You get around 15 resistance for each element, an amulet of power (1 ability point for inquisitor) and a bunch of rare and epic belts that give further resistances. There is also a lot of gold and chance for getting some nice items.

I only collected all 114 in one playthrough in which I'm still playing and I will finish everything.

No. You do not HAVE to spend hours and hours and &c.

If there WAS a legendary item at the end of it, THEN you might be able to make a case that you had to spend hours doing this. But because the reward is relatively minor, it also means that there is no game-mechanical reason that you have to get it. By all means, get the shards if you like figuring out the puzzles involved in getting to them. But if you don't like it, then you're under no compulsion to do it.

With how good crafting in this game is, I'd be pissed if it was a legendary item, because it would inevitably be crap compared to what I crafted.  20% resistance to all elements for the rest of the game and DLC beyond is actually a pretty sweet reward for a min-maxer completion. Plus you can stagger them out early game for minor resistance to all elements, or go for one element right away.  On my first nightmare playthrough I got the 20% fire resist and a fire resist belt from that boss too by level 11, which really helped fight dragons the rest of the game.

In my mind the exception to that rule is the limited inventory, in which you cannot conceivably carry around all of those hundreds of stupid belts and rings that you pick up everywhere. As for crafting, if you don’t have the gold, schematics, metals and animal skins and hides available to you, your crafting is limited. You are in constant scrounge mode when playing looking for herbs, metals and the killing of all wildlife for their skins and hides. Add to that searching for mosaic pieces, landmarks--that I can never find-- and the shards. Not to mention lumber stands and quarries. For me it gets real old real quick: and boring as hell.
