If we can avoid kicking that hornets nest that would be great.

"Hey you Xtians! Stop hating teh gays, you're just dirty intolerant brain washed delusional scumbags who worship a zombie!"
Typical example of "tolerance" at work there from a select group of gays and atheists. These two groups fight the bigotry of fundamentalist Christians with the most disgusting and vile **** that you will ever see that it's hilarious that they claim the moral ground afterwards.
Intolerance never works but tolerance doesn't work either because if you tolerate something, it's going to continue.
The best way to end any intolerance is through education not through your own hatred and bigotry of a group.

Crusing Tumblr recently and I tend to notice that people who promote tolerance and equality tend to be hypocrites of their own message. When they encounter someone who shares a different opion as them, they are simply terrible to them. Throw the same animosity and hate. I have to wonder though. Is this the best route? Shouldn't people who promote tolerance lead by example and tolerate the opinions expressed by others? Or is the only way to fight hate with more hate?
Tumblr has some of the shittiest human beings I've ever had to listen to. I like it for the art but some of the **** that crosses my dashboard makes me want to vomit
The tumblr people you speak of deserve only intolerance and hate, tumblr is a cancer.
I've never agreed with you more.
(just looked at my dashboard now and this was on the top)

I agree that James Franco and Seth Rogan kinda suck ass, but having the right to criticize government is pretty freaking important. LOL.

Exactly. I don't give a damn about this shitty movie or the shitty actors in it, and it doesn't matter whether it's talking about something sensitive. It's completely unacceptable to threaten people over a piece of fiction. And the people who justify it because they don't like the said piece of fiction are basically saying it's ok to threaten people anytime a piece of media does something you don't like.

This, this and this. Intolerance leads to hipocrisy and even more hatred. Its counterpart, on the other hand, tends to not be harsh enough.

I talked about this in a different thread. They are the product of the safe, sterile environment in which people in the West are raised. Shielded from the harsh realities of the outside world, the worst of the hardships and oppressions people must face are things like being unable to marry members of the same sex. People seethe over frivolities like video games not being inclusive enough of "disadvantaged" groups and vehemently demand censorship of offensive or "triggering" images and words. Jealousy of the "privileged class" fuels moral outrage and demands for "justice" and "equality" in the form of more abdundant and freely available amenities and excesses which they feel they are denied or have greater difficulty obtaining. The explosive tantrums people have over these things shows a deep rooted sense of entitlement, much like a spoiled child.
The best solution is to cut people off to sink or swim, but that's not how our pseudo-utopian society works anymore. There is always a safety net and resources are always in reach. Until the safety bubble bursts people will continue to want more and stew in misery over the things they don't have, no matter how trivial those things might be.

As for the OP, I find it really hard to take anything serious on an internet forum or the like. Unless it is involves someone that I'm familiar or even friends with, I stay out of all debates of that nature. I have zero interest in trumpeting equality to random nobodies or raging when somebody post something offensive. And really I try to avoid the cesspit's of the internet. People joke about the BSN, but it is really a pretty decent place to hang.

Tumblr's like any other social site.
Good shtuff and bad shtuff.
Too bad the bad gets more attention.
Like the BSN for example.
Y'all pretty cool guys, and there are some I'd call buddies.
But people who don't know about it will think it's a hell hole.
FB is worse in my experience. I hate that place. Especially the girls and their sl*t shaming.

The internet lends itself towards extreme displays of emotion and outburst, so be the person who doesn't bare their buttocks at a perceived enemy and fling poo. We are more evolved than bonobos and chimpanzees. We can behave better than them as well.
That being said, it does grate my cheese that Pluto is no longer a planet. What did Pluto ever do to deserve that?

Never got into FB personally so I can't comment. But tumblr is significantly worse then most places online I know. I agree that unfortunately it's the bad **** that typically gets the most attention though.

As fun as it is to discuss straw men, it really depends upon what you are being asked to tolerate. As with most emotional states, it's best to be negative towards bad ideas (hate oppression for example) and positive towards people (love Emily).

I agree. Even the people who ****** me off the most here are significantly better then some of the people on other sites. Sure discussions get heated and people say things that ****** me off a lot but I still consider BSN to be a pretty decent place to be.
