Tumblr is designed to be a hugbox, it's not an open engagement forum like reddit or the chans (which are also cancer, but for different reasons).

So people are allowed and even encouraged to surround themselves with others who think, feel and act the way they do. It's entirely self serving and cements our world views. On one hand, it feels nice to get that support in times of trouble. On the other hand, the moment someone or something penetrates that self centered environment, people will react violently because they don't want or accept anything that challenges their worldview in their hugbox.

Do I want to relate this with the SJW phenomenon and their supposed fight for tolerance and equality? Not really. It's definitely not unique to SJWs in concept, but SJWs at the moment seem to be especially prominent and numerous examples of what I'm talking about. I don't know why many SJWs gravitate towards this more so than say, fundamentalist Christians.

Tumblr is fantastic when it comes to art, OC or gifs though. Won't deny that.

There's one guy on my tumblr that goes on and on about how much he hates racism, and then continues to explain that's why he hates all white people. I've seen several people call him out on it already and he calls them selfish white ignorant attention seekers for it.

I only made a tumblr so I could browse images without hitting that limit at the bottom.

Nothing to do with the people who use it, though.

But tumblr crashes my computer half the time I browse said images, so it sucks anyway.

 

Also, it eats up data if you look at it on your phone at work like I do >_>

 

But yes, just sticking with the images is the best way to go. My issue is I've been following some people for ages now cause they post tons of images I like, but they are the same people who are driving me nuts.

Crusing Tumblr recently and I tend to notice that people who promote tolerance and equality tend to be hypocrites of their own message. When they encounter someone who shares a different opion as them, they are simply terrible to them. Throw the same animosity and hate. I have to wonder though. Is this the best route? Shouldn't people who promote tolerance lead by example and tolerate the opinions expressed by others? Or is the only way to fight hate with more hate?

 

You made the mistake of taking their rhetoric at face value. They neither want "tolerance"(code for acceptance of their politics/morality) or "equality"(they want a hierarchical victim spoils system).

 

Beyond that, what they promote is a soft decentralized totalitarianism where they try to force people to conform to their beliefs via threats of social ostracization and ruining their livelihoods(like the former ceo of Mozilla and the black guy behind "#notyourshield").

 

They're scum through and through.

I know a lot of smart people who are capable of being really stupid and intolerant.
