Am I the only one who doesn't care for the next Mass Effect?

I guess if I want to go full circle with what Jaron was saying maybe that's some alright proof that they're pretty different approaches.

I really like the battle theme in the first game! Favorite in the series.
Generally though, I prefer FFIV's, V's, VI's, VII's, VIII's, IX's, and X's OSTs. But I keep that song on my iPod always. Beautiful piece and delightful for cardio, haha.

At least check out Divine Love, Invisible Depths, and Almighty Bhunivelze from 13-2 and LR. XV's soundtrack is looking to be good too. But I digress. Don't want to stray too much off topic. ![]()

And yeah, we're kinda straying in a couple of topics tonight. We should veer back on course. It's my own an fault for deciding to post more again, I'm all Mass Effected lately from my current replay.

Yeah, it got weird at the end. I really liked DA2, even if I understand the criticism it receives and agree with a lot of it. I'll never understand why Orsino loses his damn mind, though, even if you defend the mages. WTH? Strange choice by the writers. It still gets me every time just thinking about how DA2 went into wtf territory to ensure we had one more boss fight and then a year later ME3 avoided a boss fight "because it would be too gamey."

I'll likewise never forget yelling "WTF, Anders?" at the TV the first time I saw the scene that changed Thedas. I'd recognized Hawke was stupidly helping him build an explosive device, based upon the ingredients, but had forgotten about that amidst all the shouting matches. Then, BOOM! WTF, Anders?

I've just finished my 5th DAI playthrough and was planning on a 6th, but for some reason after watching the latest Hunger Games I felt the inclination to play the ME series again lol. Haven't started yet, but figured I'd see what's going on on this side of the BSN.

I feel that the Next ME needs to take place after a sizable time gap from the ending of ME3, So that things in ME1-3 can fade into merky legend, also that would remove the need for a ME Keep.

It would have to be a really, really long gap, given the lifespans of asari and krogan. Not to mention geth and Reapers being effectively immortal.
Mass Relay, dammit! If there is to be an import system, they must call it the Mass Relay! It relays massive data from the Mass Effect games, quickly! It... it's perfect... I... no one has ever liked it but me, b-but BioWare will know it's perfect, and use it... D:

Immature original poster.
Uh... The Mass Effect trilogy is my favourite game of all time and I've played it many times and still am and I still want another Mass Effect game but without Shepard.
So long as they don't do what they're doing with Dragon Age and are going to create a new hero that spans multiple games like the first three, I'd empty my wallet for Bioware.
Just replay the Mass Effect trilogy. How exactly is a new Mass Effect game without Shepard "milking" that franchise? Sounds to me like you just won't accept another Mass Effect game without Shepard and the crew out of pure overzealousness.
Believe me, I'd like Shepard to resurrect (depending on the ending) but I'm not going to neglect the next Mass Effect game that might even be better. It's an incredibly immature attitude.

My take on it is that red lyrium is seeping through and influencing people living in the city on the long run. Almost every plot point in the story relies at one point on seemingly random psychotic or at the very leat uncharacteristic behaviour. Anders, the Arishak, Orsino, Meredith, the lady killer, most of the templars you met, Dumar's son, most of the mages you met, etc.Yeah, it got weird at the end. I really liked DA2, even if I understand the criticism it receives and agree with a lot of it. I'll never understand why Orsino loses his damn mind, though, even if you defend the mages. WTH? I don't see a future Mass Effect game as "milking the franchise" because to me, Shepard did not make Mass Effect what it was, the universe and the lore did. Shepard was simply the player interacting within that universe and so will the next protagonist be.
As for the stakes, yes, they were rather high but I have no need for the next game to match them. A game focusing on a smaller aspect of the Mass Effect universe is fine with me. They could make a C-Sec la noire game and I would be totally up for that.

I don't understand why people need to have the stakes higher than the Reaper War. It is perfectly possible to have a compelling story and intimidating threat without it being the annihilation of civilisation. There are many aspects that could be explored; civil war between strained council states/races, new civilisations bringing a threat etc. This insistence on making this bigger/better/MOAR ADRENALINE would only serves to turn Mass Effect into Die Hard in space.
Milking the franchise would be having the next installment being 'Mass Effect: Shepard & Liara's Blue Babies Edition'. Creating a new story line in an established universe would be the best way forward. Look at how many great games etc have come out of the Star Wars IP.

But I'll never let it go. Not until the seas heat up and the and mountains split open.
Not Until Casey Hudson prostrates himself before the world and utters the words "I'm sorry" will I let it go.
Not until I get some closure for the ending that I played through three games over the course of five years to reach will I ever let it go.

This used to be my stance too.
For me, the strongest part of ME has always been the characters. That's certainly the thing I adore most about it. That being the case, I have faith that BW can craft new characters every bit as good as those in the first three games. Just taking the last game - I thought Vega, Cortez, and especially Traynor were great additions.
I've said this before, but it's still true - the toughest challenge will be replacing Garrus. Garrus, IMO, is probably the greatest character that BW have ever created, and he's perfectly VA'd. Very tough task.
As long as there's still a strong character focus to the next game then I've gone from not caring less about the next game, 12 months ago, to desperately awaiting it, now.
No matter how many problems we had/have with certain parts of the trilogy, the sum experience was overwhelmingly positive, otherwise we'd never have ploughed through to the end, and we wouldn't still be here. I hope that lessons have been learned from the Shepard trilogy, it wasn't perfect, but, that doesn't inherantly mean that the next game can't be better.
Not to take away from Mass Effect but Varric and Zevran are up there as some of Bioware's best characters.
Anyways I don't see what they can do past the Reapers. They can have other enemies to face sure but I can't see them outdoing the Reapers which wiped out almost all organic life every 50k years

BioWare has written a lot of amazing characters. Look at the rosters from KotOR, ME, Jade Empire and Dragon Age. Those are all in the past 10-15 years, no less. It's what they do.Not to take away from Mass Effect but Varric and Zevran are up there as some of Bioware's best characters.
Anyways I don't see what they can do past the Reapers. They can have other enemies to face sure but I can't see them outdoing the Reapers which wiped out almost all organic life every 50k years
One doesn't need to outdo the Reapers. It can't be done, feasibly. Trying to match it would result in shark-jumping of epic lameness.
The galaxy is vast, and trillions live in it. Some of the trillions we haven't yet met must have exciting stories to tell. Otherwise, why play any video game ever again? After all, what accomplishment could trump saving the galaxy from the Reapers? Each game or storyline really stands or falls on its own. Some are epic, some are smaller. It's about how well the individual story engages the player.

The Mass Effect Universe is far too rich and complex for it to die with Shepard. You have all these diverse and interesting alien races, unexplored space, and other galactic mysteries out there. There are plenty of stories left to tell.

It still gets me every time just thinking about how DA2 went into wtf territory to ensure we had one more boss fight and then a year later ME3 avoided a boss fight "because it would be too gamey."
I guess if I want to go full circle with what Jaron was saying maybe that's some alright proof that they're pretty different approaches.
DA2 added Orsino as a second boss fight because they had to keep hammering in the idea that "mages are just as bad as the templars" until the end. I really hope Mass Effect will avoid this kind of idiocy (not because mages aren't "bad", but because Orsino suddenly becoming a monster made literally 0 sense).
