Ok..the inquisitor is probably the most powerful and capable character we've played as of yet; even more so than the HoF. Soloing dragons, giants, defeating old gods, building an unstoppable enchanted army..physically entering the fade and comming out unscathed..from an outside perspective it would seem the inquisitor is almost..god-like.

My question: Is the inquisitor an incredibly capable -to the point of legend-rogue/mage/warrior before the "anchor," or did all this power happen once they exited the fade with the "anchor"?

I think about the conversation with Varric where he explains all of what the inquisitor has done and accomplished, saying that it is a lot to chock up to coincidence..lol that's an understatement.

So what gives? I'm thinking there is a higher power involved..the makers chosen one? A new prophet in the DA universe?

Well, if you can't face an army single handed, you wouldn't be much of a protagonist.

Story works better as a mage.. same with Hawke and Warden, I guess. Then it's an example of what a person like that can do when they're unleashed.

I think that is the mystery of the story. Is the hero really the herald of Andraste? Do they have the protection of the Maker? How did they survive at the summit? I haven't finished the story yet, so I don't know but the "the mark" does more than just close the rifts, you can use it offensively too.

Well, my inquisitor can't solo dragons, lol. I think you're confusing your personal combat abilities with Lore. There's nothing mentioned by other characters about you being particularly godlike. You can just close rifts and, if you do it right, command loyalty. You may or may not be Andraste's chosen, but if you are, you weren't given  superpowers

Well, Cass in her romance says she's frightened of you, and that you're capable of anything.

Obviously, it was meant for a Knight Enchanter. :D

Physically entering the Fade is a consequence of having the Anchor, not necessarily any degree of bad@ssery. Thedas just got lucky that it was a powerful warrior or mage who interrupted Corypheus and not some lowly servant on his or her way to emptying the contents of the Divine's chamber pot.

Also we have to take into account gameplay and story segregation. In gameplay you might be able to solo a giant or a dragon, but lorewise its probably supposed to be the whole party taking them down. Also while the Inquisitor may have killed more dragons than Hawke or the Warden, having killed more doesn't necessarily mean the Inquisitor is more skilled with a sword or with magic. It just means the Inquisitor has faced more.

Personally I'd rank the Inquisitor and the Hero of Ferelden as more or less equal, with Hawke a slight step behind. That's just my opinion though, and others may differ.

DA:O story doesn't work better as a mage... And arguably DA2 doesn't either. Personally I found the story of DA:O far more captivating as a human noble, and the story of DA2 is mostly interchangable regarding the class of Hawke.

Personally, I like Rogue Hawke the most. So I don't want to sound biased or something. I like the idea of being Bethany's sneaky/clever protector.

I'm mostly kidding about this (but not so much DAI.. it feels even more mage centric).

It was disappointing that the Inquisitor could never really use their infamous reputation like the Warden could in Awakening. I loved that scene with those bandits where you could just point out who you were, and they'd be throwing themselves off the cliffs to get away. :S

Meh.. If you ask me, just because magic plays a large role, doesn't mean that mage class is somehow more relevant. Mostly I feel that the class of the player character is largely irrelevant to anything other than gameplay.

I wanted to think like you, and fought it, but I gave in. If there's ever a time for a mage, it's DAI.

And I still think gameplay wise, warriors/rogues are more fun.

You need to add some red lyrium to the regimen. Dudes at my gym have been making mad gainz!

I tend to agree, except for that last line... I don't think I can enjoy another class after playing as a mage in DA:I (and yes, I did try them all).

Anyway, as far as the topic goes, I am going to go with gameplay and story segregation... after all, Finn was technically more powerful than any DA:O mage, and he spent most of his time in the Circle of Magi... situations like that are common enough that I don't put a lot of stock in who seems to be more powerful.  Unless the game specifies that someone is uniquely gifted, I try not to rank characters by what happens in these games.

I was impressed my Inquisitor could so easily dodge an arrow shot at her point blank 5 feet away (the cutscene before Florianne's boss fight) Like girl, when did you learn to do that in the Circle?

Maybe in a DLC?

I can make Cousland HoF work. The story was more about being an excellent leader then. The Mage-Templar conflict was far away, and Morrigan could blow up stuff when needed. Not the same here.

Considering that the Inquisitor eats Pride Demons like pizza on friday nights... I say yes, s/he is the most powerful protagonist of Dragon Age.
