I know not everyone is going to like this, but I was talking about it in the Solas thread, and... the more I think about it the more I think it would be a good idea.

Basically, I'd like to see some smaller RPG games from BioWare that are maybe more connected to a particular theme.  Set protagonist, including race and gender, set in the Dragon Age setting, maybe forming a bridge between games with one to three smaller, more focused spinoff games.

These would be more oriented toward the story, so choices would have far more impact during the actual gameplay than they do in the more epic main games, romance content would be limited if it's even there (it would depend on the character whose story was being told--but if there would include multiple options including bi/gay ones)... Basically, because of a set protagonist (who could just as easily be a woman as a man), you get a tighter selection of options and more focus on what the story means for this particular character.

I love exploring and side quests in DA:I, don't get me wrong.  However, I thought that the main story was lacking, and that some of the races did not get as much content for their story as others.  To me, the game felt very elfy, for elves learning lost lore about their people, but with definite room for the human Inquisitors to explore themes of faith and doubt.  Dwarves got less content, involving the Deep Roads, and qunari even less, except to serve as the outsider with no real horse in this race.  With a spinoff type game like this, you could cater to a need for everything to tie into the story.  Even if you had 2-3 romance options for the spinoff's set protagonist, they could all be tied into the main story in a way that made them have more impact on the game.

And, I repeat, I'd want this to be a spinoff sort of thing, not the main games.  I prefer the main games to have options and openness, because, well, that is the main reason why BioWare is awesome.  I just feel that they could do a couple of spinoff-type games in-between games; smaller, shorter games with less exploration that could also tie in to the next upcoming game.

For that matter, we could even have a very small party--say, you get the same three people with you for the entirety of the spinoff, rather than a large group to choose from.  Everyone ends up more developed, you maybe get two or three options for a romance or no romance at all in favor of deep friendships (maybe the protagonist is a party member, potentially romance option, in the next main game?  How meta: romance yourself!).

I don't expect this to happen at all, but, you know... it's something I'd welcome and almost certainly something I'd buy.  I normally prefer to play female characters, but for a BioWare game, I'd totally be willing to play a set male protagonist--especially if I knew that in another spinoff there'd be a female set protagonist.

I proposed a similar approach for mass effect to skirt around ME3's ending- explore some of the history about the "strong" opinions held in the game's characters.

Also proposed just to ignore ME3 and follow the dark energy thread -its very popular and it's real science. Throw what we know at it and let millions of creative minds dwell on the various possibilities of what we can measure and predict - who knows what could happen?
