If they must remain in the game. It’s pretty strange that the Inquisition would dare touch the stuff.

Even better, I put a Master Corrupting Rune on Bianca. Varric didn't notice yet. :P

As did I. lol

It's almost like Blood Magic in previous games - "oh no it's evil! *uses it* *no one says anything*"

On the other hand, in DA2 Sandal neutralized Bartrand's red lyrium shard into a rune, so maybe they're not dangerous?

Runes made by someone like Sandal or Dagna are one thing.

Those hideous and immersion-breaking red lyrium weapons, on the other hand...

I know I've ranted about them before, but really?

So BW has dismissed their lore again...sigh, not surprising at this point.

They just told us that lyrium is -alive- and can contract the blight, which turns it into red lyrium. Unless Sandal can heal the blight (stated as impossible lore wise), there is no way that a red lyrium rune will ever be not dangerous.

I'm okay with them changing the lore some, but the red lyrium cleansing should be explained.  Otherwise, yeah, it contradicts the lore as we understand it.

 I think it ties into Sandal's nature...somehow.   <shrug>

By DA:I, Varric has a full-blown phobia. Explaining that it’s okay now ’cause Dagna did some more magicks to it isn’t going to fly.

You should read the description of these weapons first. Also it's worth to tell that Varric said that Sandal should use the shard.

I have read the descriptions. It still doesn't fly.

The 'cleansed' red lyrium items we've seen are runes. These weapons are giant hunks of red lyrium.

It's only wrong if your enemy uses it. As a paragon of justice and everything that's good in the world you couldn't possibly be corrupted and you definetly know what you're doing. I'm sure the Red Templars didn't have the same intentions in mind.
