Weird to put up such a list since it's hard to say what kind of sci-fi game is "good". For story I'd choose bioshock infinite. starcraft is no doubt the most popular, though probably not in this forum. Halo is the best sci-fi shooter game, and maybe the best of all shooter games. Portal is more imaginative than any other, though I'd put portal 2 instead. And me2 is the best rpg for sure.
I do agree me2 is the best of the trilogy. me1 has only a few main mission and me3 has only a few side missions (most of them are stupid. "I overheard you talking on the phone so I searched the galaxy with the risk of being killed by reapers." it's really stupid)

IMO:
ME3 > ME1 > ME2
Sorry, but while ME3 and ME1 has prety amazing story (with the Reaper war in ME3, and just the novelty of the universe in ME1), ME2's just feels too "human" and "non-exotic" for my tastes. Add to it the improved and amazing gameplay and customization ME3 offers, and it beats ME2 every time.

Mostly agreed, except that I don't feel much differently playing ME2 and ME3. So while I like ME3 the most, the gameplay improvements never feel half as noticeable to me between 2 and 3 as they do between 1 and 2.
This stems, almost certainly, from not paying much attention to that side of the experience, mind you.

I agree with ME3 > ME1 > ME2, and man does that feel weird to say. But on my most recent playthrough, ME3 really stood out as an incredible game. Not that 1 and 2 aren't, but ME3 was really impressive.
It's weird that ME2 is the one that critics have a hard on for. I guess ME1 is too wonky and ME3 has ending-gate, so ME2 is least offensive choice. Still though, I think ME3 with Extended cut and DLCs is the best game modern Bioware has made, and it deserves recognition.

ME1 is my favorite. But I can't argue with those that feel ME3 was the most complete game in the trilogy.

The majority agrees. I know people have gripes with where ME2 took the overarching plot and how it did it, but I just love it. ME1 was great but I couldn't deny even when I played it the first time that the major portions of its main plot were just boring and poorly executed. Feros and Noveria were kinda sucky where Eden Prime, Virmire and the rest of the plot worked quite well, but ME2 just felt consistently good to me. To me that game was near-perfect, and it was the first game since Ocarina of Time that made me go "This is my favorite game of all time". Totally deserved.

The games should be viewed as one, despite ME2 disconnection from ME1 and ME3. All three games focus on Shepard's story in the context of fighting Reapers. You import your choices in each consecutive game. The world is shaped by your decisions in the previous games. Having ME2 as the best Sci-fi game of all time without even referencing ME1 and ME3 is wrong IMO.
Guess that disconnection also helps - it should be easier to get into ME2 without knowing anything about the games (although I never tried it)

So, you don't perform combat rolls, don't sprint as much as you like instead of a distance worthy of an octogenarian with ashma (when you're a freakin' N7 soldier with more than a decade of combat experience), and don't customize your weapons as you see fit?

There's no denying the power attributes were butchered in ME2. ME3 greatly improved on that aspect of the gameplay. As well as customizing your weapons.

None of that stuff really sticks with me because I don't really pay attention to the gamier aspects of the precious few video games I play. As I previously insinuated. So, you don't perform combat rolls, don't sprint as much as you like instead of a distance worthy of an octogenarian with ashma (when you're a freakin' N7 soldier with more than a decade of combat experience), and don't customize your weapons as you see fit?

You can roll your eyes back into place anytime, because there's, uh, no reason to be so snide. It's "asthma", by the way!

Then if you don't "pay attention to game aspects", why do you even bother mentioning anything at all about the gameplay? ¬¬

Why does it bother you...? ¢_¢
I'm sorry, OK? You're objectively correct that there wasn't much point in my mentioning it in retrospect. I apologize for the strangely irked state I seem to have brought you into.

ME1 wasn't really a very good game. If you include gameplay as a requirement then it falls way short of ME2 and ME3.

If you consider narrative and atmosphere a requirement, the sequels fall way short. If games get points off for mind numbing linearity, the sequels get knocked down quite a few pegs.

I'd just put the trilogy as a whole at number one, but that's just me

The narrative of ME2 is vastly superior to ME1. Sure, you can enjoy ME1 story more, but the way it's told, the way dialogue in handled? It was the best in ME2.

How is that? ME2 level cap was half that of ME1, it had less attribute points to be used and the skill trees were smaller. Surely that must mean "power attributes were butchered in ME2". Except that in practice the exact opposite happened. Powers become more meaningful, diverse and interesting. As did the 6 classes that now felt unique.

ME3 not placing is the great disappointment here. Should have been #1. Alas.
It seems that only picking one in a series was an unwritten rule, which makes sense I suppose. Otherwise I'd put ME3 on there and KOTOR II.
I'd also put Portal 2 instead of Portal, BioShock 1 or 2 instead of Infinite, and Xenosaga Ep 3 instead of Ep 1.
