Why do a lot of people hate Vivienne?

I wonder what kind of extravagant party Vivienne would thrown for Christmas...? Maybe she'd dress up all the dwarfs as elves and gives them pointed shoes and hats with bells.
Well if she hates the INQ in a playthrough , she starts redecorating the Keep

I would have no problem with Vivienne's character, what makes me hate interacting with her is that no matter what, she gets the last word. The conversation is set up that no matter what you say, she wins and your Inquisitor looks like an idiot, unless he/she agrees with her. You can't chastise her condemnation of mages wanting their freedom after she spread her legs to relative independence. She just magically floats above any and all criticism because she's a strong, independent woman who don't need no man.

Not everyone is going to like the same type of character. It is what it is.
If you are asking why someone people go through great lengths to write up in detail summaries that are nothing more than character assassinations, I couldn't tell you.
I guess its because they were a bit too invested in the game and thought that Vivi, or Sera, or whoever was "too much" and felt that they couldn't react to them appropriately or in proportion to how much they disliked said character, so they end up ranting about it on BSN.

Its a kind of elitism , people who lurk alot in the forum tend to notice when the same thing gets posted in different threads and get annoyed by it.
LOL as opposed to simply ignoring it...

Christmas is the season to be jolly. I'm sure she'd be too full of Christmas cheer to care about drapes and statues when there are lights and tinsel that need to be strung around trees.

My problem with her is that she is an old fashioned man's idea of what an independent woman is, which is to say arrogant, overly aggressive, self assured and - above all others - annoyingly smug.
She's every bit the caricature as a stoic warrior or a snooty noble.

She's a good character if you do everything she likes (or do like me and lie to her in the majority of the conversations I have with her). Yay the circle is the best! (forges an alliance with free mages). You are so super awesome and totally should be the divine!!! (supports Lelianna for Divine). Etc Etc. Unlike the other companions you really can't be honest with her, or she becomes really unbearable calling you ugly, stupid, etc.
So yeah. I'm guessing people might dislike her cause she's a total *itch if you don't deal with her drama exactly the right way.

That's actually part of why I like her. Not every character needs to bow at my every whim, that would be no fun either.

I like the fact she's there - too many brown nosers in this game as it is - more than I like her as a character.
I think she's needed for balance, but personally do not rate her. It's all a matter of opinion, either way.

Other than stoic warrior is a perhaps the worst example a person could cite as a caricature given history is filled with stoic warriors from various cultures and for that matter Stoicism was classical school from the classical world followed by many people including several roman emperors there are RL people in the past and present who would fall under your other two so called caricatures.

She's obnoxious, I get her but all she really does is hang out at my stronghold I don't even really talk to her. She grates on my nerves. Lol
I can generally handle any personality type so she doesn't really bother me.
not my type
Is that a Bosox cap you're wearing?

I don't mind my personal interactions with her, Skyhold/Haven. And her KE tree is fabulous.
But I can't have her in any of my parties. My favourite characters are Dorian and Cole. She bickers and rants and is so frustratingly arrogant in any banters she has, and is do damn condescending in any lines she has in conversations. Such a negative nancy. It really brings me down every time she opens her mouth. I'd rather bring people along that have funny or heartwarming banter, than listen to my party members insult each other like schoolchildren.

LOL yes KE tree is a beast for sure. Arguably the most powerful in the game. Also I like her banter because I get a chuckle out of it. Her banter with Bull is pretty funny. Actually Bull's banter with anyone is pretty funny. But I find it funny how intimidated Bull is by her.

I agree with this, it's present in all her banter with all the other characters too. It comes off as lazy writing, an easy way to make her look witty by always giving her the last word.
To answer the OP my problem with her is the sense that she sees everybody as a tool to be used to further her own power, I'm not against amoral characters but when you combine it with her arrogance and self-righteousness it grates on my nerves.
I actually like that Bioware has included a character that I don't like though, I feel it gives the companions variety and actually makes the whole situation seem more realistic every work environment is going to have somebody you don't like.

Why do a lot of people seem to hate a lot of female characters and Krem, yet male characters with similar traits are beloved and adored and just brilliant Bioware writing.
It's so strange.

Because shes a condescending ****** who thinks shes better than everyone, looks down on her fellow mages for wanting freedom, even though she's lived a life of privilege and has never had to endure real hardship in her life. Treats Blackwall like **** even before we knew anything about him, and expects everyone to see to her every whim simply because she expects them to. Cant stand her, dont like her, and I certainly dont respect her. Horrid, horrid, little woman.

People hate Krem? What the hell for? It's like people just have spare hate points in their account and have to spend it on something before it expires.
