I've unlocked my characters through crafting so I'm wondering if anyone has somehow managed to unlock a character through a store chest or is this just impossible

yep. It is possible, just a low RNG chance

It's possible...and annoying, when you don't want all the armors cluttering your inventory.

I think I unlocked 2 characters, one of them was assassin and one was templar [not 100% sure on that.] 

 

It's pretty rare. But it definitely happens.

My prestige is 161 or so, and I've unlocked everything but hunter and arcane warrior purely from chests. Plus higher level armors -- probably at least three level 5 armors and plenty of of level 4s.

Yep, got Tempar, Hunter, Necro, and Assassin from chest unlocks while I leveled my Keeper and crafted to unlock Elementalist (who I prestiged a bunch...). It does happen, and it is worth noting that you can keep unlocking extra armor variants for classes you already have from chests too until you have them all. My prestige is 236 if it matters.

 

On that note, I would assume (but am not entirely certain) that you could unlock the newest variants of Inquisition armors and such that were recently added from chests, but have not had any of those occur outside crafting.

I got reaver and a bunch of the top tier armors for other classes, but I dont think u get those until doing at least one unlock, not sure how it works but it saved me a ton of cloth.

I've unlocked 5 characters via chests. Chests have dropped 2 or 3 pieces of upgraded armor for all but two characters.

Still no unique accessories or a single amulet.
Still no unique weapons over lvl 15 though.

Swimming in the sea of life with my lvl 23 common weapons sharing the pain of the common man!

I got Templar. Rest have been outfits for current characters.

I got the Templar via chest during the EA Access early play. Nothing else because I was impatient and wanted all 12 to play with. Lots of armor variants from chests, though.

My only unlock is from a chest, and it's the second Archer armor.

I've only crafted 3 armors and I'm 2 characters away from all of 'em being unlocked so, yeah, they drop.  I have no idea how rare they are.  I almost exclusively play Hunter and Alchemist so I couldn't tell you when or how often I've looted new unlocks.

I just got a Peerless Archer Chest. Quite nice, would have preferred a different classes armour.

i've gotten 4 outta chests (which i never planned to use anyways), i've also gotten some armor upgrades..

 

assassin, templar, hunter, AW (all of which i never plan to use) and upgrades for necro, lego and keeper.

 

I play mostly casters.. all of them depending on the setup of the group, but AW still untouched and will remain so.

I think I got the hunter out of a chest.. The rest I had to unlock with crafting.

I got the elementalist by buying chests and nearly every Day 1 Archer-Armor.

Pro tip, if you find yourself overstocked on crafting materials and armor, just craft the rest of the shitty armors you don't need because it will remove the possibility of a chest generating a useless armor.

I got my Hunter, Assassin, and Reaver through the chests...not a single accessory yet though.

Got the Elementalist and Hunter that way, but the rest I made from salvaged goods. Maybe it's just me, but I have gotten more staffs than a lot of players tend to do, so getting Cloth has only been mildly annoying.

I'm pretty sure I got the Hunter from a chest. I know I didn't craft his armor.

Got the elementalist from chests. And peerless archer armor too if that counts.

Once. But I did get 4 new armors for characters I already had. I think they're trying to encourage us to craft armor for unlocking characters we want.
