I'm sure as most of you are aware, DW Assassin is one of the highest DPS weapon+class+specialization combinations in the game. My goal with this thread is to discuss how to properly min-max this combination, mainly discussing items, crafting, and desired item attributes.
My preliminary thoughts on weapon crafting choice:
To start off with, the best dagger/dagger schematic I've seen so far in my game and searching the internet seems to be the Dual-Curved Blade Schematic. Not the masterwork version either, just the vanilla version from the Emprise du Lion vendor after capturing the keep.
To summarize why I prefer the non-masterwork version, both daggers have the same number of primary slots and thus do the same damage. The masterwork version has three slots for utility, one which takes 5 leather, the other two with 3 leather. The non-masterwork version has two offense slots, with 3 cloth and 3 leather respectively, and one utility slot, with 3 leather. In short, offense slots are better than utility slots (at least in my opinion, feel free to disagree if you feel different!).
Meanwhile with 11 dragonbone in the primary slot this crafted dagger will have 341 DPS, higher than any other dagger in game or any one I've seen online.
My concern is mainly with how to min-max those offense and utility slots.
For the offense slots you have the following options:
Cloth:
- +6% Chance to heal on kill
- +9% Barrier Damage Bonus
- +5.25% Attack
- +10.5% Critical Damage (Dragon Webbing)
Leather:
- +9% Critical Damage
- +9% Flanking Damage
- +5.25% Chance to Bleed Target on Hit
- +5.25% Critical Chance
- +10.5% Armor Penetration (Dragon Scales)
and for utility:
Leather:
- +5.25 Cunning
- +5.25 Dexterity
- +3 Cunning and +3 Dexterity (Dragon Scales)
I currently have my daggers specced for maximum attack, flanking damage, and dexterity, with a dense dual-blade grip also maximizing flanking damage. I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on how to better maximize damage for a DW Assassin.
One thought that popped into my head was increasing critical chance, you could easily get enough critical chance to get 100% critical chance from a flanking position (critical chance is doubled in flanking position with passive skill) just from two daggers+grips fully spec'd for critical chance and 16 total cunning for your character (gives 8% critical chance). I realize this would make the assassin passive Knife in the Shadows almost useless, and may be better suited for a DW Tempest (or even artificer?), but I thought it was an interesting possibility to explore. Against normal mooks I practically never auto attack, but against bosses and dragons I auto attack a decent amount between skill cooldowns and to regen stamina.
