Are other Co-Op games with P2P systems this laggy?

I have a 50/5Mbps 15ms connection and half of my games are EXTREMELY laggy. Especially on Perilous, once I FINALLY overcome all of the bugs (Stuck on Black Loading Screen, Unable to move when joining an progress games, Stuck on connecting, etc.) I get into the match and I am warping all over the place. Was ME3MP this bad because I didn't get the third game because of the ending.

I have a similar connect to yours, and I run into lag in various MP games, depending on where the host is located. In P2P-hosted games like this, the net-code is supposed to weed out poor connections, but sadly DAMP is not so good at that.

I have literally spent an hour try to join a PUG match, only to rage quit after each game-in-progress I joined saw my character unable to move or attack, but still cast abilities, once the match loaded. As far as I can see, that is an issue with synchronizing assets between host and client.

My tip to you? Host every time you can. You internet will be better for others than theirs for you, with few exceptions.

I honestly despise P2P MP, but almost everyone does it except Battlefield and Minecraft really.

When the current host crashes or what have you and it picks someone that will cause horrendous lag over my connection I doubt there is even a system in place to weed out bad connections. Because it has never once in said situation picked my connection over another. Only when I have created the match or the last one left in the party have I ever been the host.

I would swear DAMP is Alpha at best. The core game is annoyingly addictive but is obviously in an Alpha state.

Uh... no. I have played alpha-tests for private parties. They are not even close to complete and requires active debugging. DAMP alpha-test likely had no audio, each of the three maps had the exact same layout each time, and most importantly the testers could access the dev console at will to script out bugs.

Unfortunately, that term has been diluted by Steam games claiming to be "alpha-tests" to advertise just how early your early-access really is... but in reality they are beta-tests.

If you watch behind the scenes videos (probably still on YouTube -God of war, souls series, etc) of other p2p multi games, you'll see that they all have significantly more lag than games with dedicated servers. Most games that use a p2p system design ways to "mask" the lag, with varying degrees of success. It's the nature of the beast unfortunately.

I can play most nights without any lag at all. Once every few nights I might find a host that lags too much for me to play. So I just leave the game and find a different one, or host one myself. No idea why some people lag more consistently than others. Maybe too much malware. Idk.
