It was great stuff, great stuff! Until I had to pick between my (living) Warden's lover and my Hawke who is with Fenris. NOPE NOPE NOPE ABoRT ABORt nOo000. I ended up changing my canon to avoid the choice - King Alistair (HoF still alive), RIP Stroud. I don't normally do that, I normally stick to my established well-loved canon and deal with the ramifications of my choices in these games, but that choice was just too much for my little heart, lmao. It's a shame cause Warden Alistair kept going on about his HoF. I'm not sure how I feel about HoF and King Alistair (she's Dalish) tho... iirc nothing mentions their relationship (understandable, she's away on a crazy quest and he's King)... Seriously considering changing her canon LI to Zevran or Leliana. She can be happy with Warden Alistair in an AU or something. Lmao

Edit: I see berelindes post. Cool! Zev and Leli still seem appealing tho.

LoL, yeah, I ran smack up against the same choice you did on my very first DAI playthrough. My very first HoF was a Cousland warrior, and she and Alistair remained Wardens together. Yes, I knew she could become queen, but she didn't really care much about that. She just wanted Alistair to be happy. He loved being a Warden, so that's what she decided for him. Sadly, I paired that playthrough with my absolute favorite Anders-romancing Hawke, the one I love even more than my favorite HoF (and my Cousland HoF wasn't my favorite). It should have been an easy choice, but it wasn't. I still cared about Alistair, even if I didn't care about my Warden as much, so I stared at the screen for a good 15 minutes before ALT-Tabbing out of there and closing the game.

Dragon Age Keep to the rescue! That Cousland HoF got a promotion and married King Alistair after all. I save Warden Alistair for my less-beloved Hawkes. Sorry, guys.

Lmao! I stared at the screen for ages, tried it both ways to see if one was more bearable (no) and then looked online to see if there was a way around it (not in that timeline).. So I was just like NOPE and changed the Keep and restarted haha. Glad I came across your mention of the Herald's Rest comment it's the only reference I've heard people talking about for Mistress HoF.

The power behind the fereldan throne as a Dalish elf is cool.. And anora isn't in the picture so there's that.. But Leliana/HoF (even if Lel is mistress to a cousland monarch) and to a lesser extent Zevran/HoF (sure it would be equal footing if Zevran appeared in DA: I tho) post-origins are so fluffy and sweet in comparison that I'm sorely tempted to jump ship.

I still don't know why the hell Anora is queen, either with or without Alistair or a male Cousland.  She was married to the king, then he died (they didn't even have a son for her to be regent of).  Therefore, the throne should go to the next blood relative of Maric, which would be Eamon, right?  Whatever, I just never liked her when she betrayed my Warden two times on my DA:O playthrough.

 

Eamon is not a blood relative of Maric. Eamon was the blood relative of Rowan, his sister, who married Maric. 

 

The next closest relative is actually Alistiar, the unclaimed illegitimate child and all the proof of his birth is Eamon's word, something that is suspect because we know from the novels and Fiona's dialogue that she implies that she, in fact, is Alistair's mother. An orleisian, elven mage. 

 

Anora's claim to the throne is her marriage to Cailan, and no one else has a stronger claim than Alistair.

The way Alistair bursts into that room and shouts "We need to talk" and proceeds to dump his Elven or Dwarf lover in front of everybody is terrible. He might be a tad upset because my female warden won't agree to anything he asks after he is made king.

My female warden gets sweet revenge when she cons him into doing the DR. If he is harden one needs to do lots of persuasion in getting him to agree.
