There have been a few posted already, but I haven't seen this one.

There is an island in the frozen river with a couple of chests that can spawn 2-3 tier 3 items. One of them is in a locked tower that requires the Deft Hands perk, but the other is sitting in the open (it's at the campsite marked by a ! in the map).

The benefits of this site are:

- You don't have to fight anything to get to it. There are a couple of rifts nearby, but they're far enough away that you don't trigger the spawns. I'm beaten up in the screenshots because one of Cassandra's targets for her personal quest is on the island, so just avoid starting this quest if you don't want to fight them.

- You can sit on top of the chest and save/reload to make it refill. No running around or map travelling required. This makes it quite fast.

(For those who don't already know the schematic farming trick: when looting a chest containing 2+ items, leave one behind. This makes the game think it hasn't been looted. When you come back, the chest will have refilled with different items.)

is this a completionist thing, or is nightmare so hard you really need the gear?

Mostly a completionist thing. To see the big phat numbers on your screen and push the class to the extreme :)

... I've just realised, these chests aren't that special. Turns out there are plenty of farmable chests in Emprise; eg, the boat stuck in the ice southeast of the island also has one.

Can you get any T3 armor through this method? Even the Dalish Warrior one?

Yeah, I don't like to endlessly farm in the Singleplayer experience as well. Some more hard to get merchants shouldv'e sold the schematics.

Or they could have created some repeatable operations from the War Table along the lines of the "Gather X" operations (though probably taking longer).

I like this location.

I got 2 nice schematics in 1 go from the bottom chest, and so i lost access to that one, but i kinda turned out good as i now just stand infront of the chest at the top of the tower.....and quicksave if i find something and then quickload.....no running about....takes seconds to reload. Fantastic.

Although still the RNG blue/epic/Schematics is a terrible idea in single player games.

nice. I guess I'll be going there right now then.

Yeah, Nightmare is not hard, it is just really boring. The enemies have no improved tactics, they require no more thought to defeat when compared to SP, just more spamming of abilities.. the only difference is they hit harder and take more damage.. really it did not feel like the other two games.

I see this complaint, or one like it, all over the place. There ARE two merchants who sell tier 3 schematics. The Hissing Wastes merchant ("dog") has armour, and the Emprise merchant has weapons. Do they have ALL tier 3 schematics? No, but they still have all the bases covered: battlemage/prowler/battlemaster armour, the matching arm/leg pieces, one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons, daggers, bows, shields, staves, attachments, etc. The stuff they sell will be a huge leap from the tier 2 gear you have coming in from Haven, and more than enough to complete the game even on Nightmare.

There are two reasons to farm schematics:

- You want a particular skin;
- You're after the absolute best item in a slot.

Neither of these are compulsory. Farm stuff because you want to, not because you feel you have to.
