I don't like Treasure doors and I have tried to convince people not to like them either.

 

Why is that?

 

I mean, if it's from your perspective as a person with all the best items who is purely looking for XP/hour for promotions, I can certainly understand that.

 

On the flip side, they seem to be a massive bonus to the gold/hour -- worst case you open a door and take 30-45 seconds to grab a chest and two pots (roughly equal to the whole zone bonus), best case you open a door and take 5 seconds to grab a chest for half a zone bonus.  On Threatening, for example, you'll get 80-100g per "main" treasure room and 50-60 per "side" treasure room.  When a whole Threatening run (counting chests) is only about 800-900g in the first place...

 

That said, I *do* agree that the entire group running to the end of the zone ignoring rooms and then going back all the way to the start of the zone to get the skipped rooms and then running back to the end is a waste of time.  Someone waiting by the zone transition helps...but you should really be grabbing rooms as you come across them (doesn't have to be right away if you're in the middle of a fight, but you shouldn't spend a lot of travel time moving around with all enemies dead).

 

P.S. Thanks for the 1.5 Nightmare runs the other night.  Sorry that I'm not quite up to par yet for Nightmare speed runs!

I cannot speak for Vegan but that's precisely the reason I don't like them. You'll see, the moment you get all the item drops from this game is the moment when you start avoiding treasure rooms like the plague.

 

Otherwise I agree that quick treasure rooms are easy money gain. However, when you have all the items from the game, there is little money is useful for. Even if we get 0 treasure rooms, we'll still have plenty of money by next patch for the new weapons.

 

However, I'll always open treasure rooms for people that want them. If possible, I run only the free rooms.

starrks fell into my livestream lobby tonight. Actually fell in right after we lost a PUG and the three of us all managed to faceplant on Zone 5. His Reaver was kicking so much butt and he damn near clenched it.

Yes. Argh! Against my better judgement I am a challenge completionist and every time I look at the map collections I just groan. I think I'll probably stop playing the game before I get any of those done.

The Store RNG has greatly improved over time. In the past it was nothing like it is today. Gold had very little value, people would have shopping sprees, spending tens of thousands and get nothing new.
XP was the real reward and, in my view at that time, people should be maximizing their XP/minute over their Gold/minute, thus I used to be against Door opening on most threads here back in the day.

Selfishly accepted an invite from VladImpalerIII for a Perilous match last - knowing full well I have no business playing above Threatening.  But I figured what the heck? Was so happy when my archer didn't die in room one, and hey I might actually have contributed somethng!  lol  Sorry about the wipe guys, at least I had the good taste to excuse myself from the next game.  Was big fun, though, and quite exhilarating.
