I've only beat the game as a warrior and I loved being a Reaver. Way more powerful than I thought. I thinking of doing mage or rogue next. Are the mage specializations any good?

Rift mage and Knight Enchanter are pretty good. Necromancer is ok, but the simulacrum ability needs to be turned off or battles last way too long.

For rogues, Tempest is great, especially the flask of fire (use other abilities at no stamina cost, including focus abilities) and flask of lightning (slow time) abilities. Thousand Cuts (focus) is brutal.

Assassin is good if you want to be a heavy hitter.

Artificer is good if you like to sneak around and plant traps.

I've only played as Elven Mages so far, and I've tried Rift Mage once......Which was extremerly fun. And I've tried Knight Enchanter twice. However I've come to the conclusion that KE is so ridiculously over-powered, that it kind of takes the fun out of the game.
Side note: I refuse to try Necromancer........Playing a round with dead bodies is just creepy.

S&S Templar is easily my fave. I solo'd most of the end game dragons as one.

Reaver is hampered by being useful only with S&S which I feels impairs it lore wise.

Like Champion as well, but by controlling the tank yourself a templar in good armor is as good at survivability anyway.

Assassin is my preference but all three rogue specs are broken in one way or another.

Oh my freaking gosh! The Artificer is the best class I ever played in a game. Those fools actually follow me right into my field of land mines. The flash all over the screen brings joy to my eyes. Boom boom boom!! Ok I'll go to sleep now.

Ooh....that sounds fun. I may have to play as a Rogue on my next playthrough.

Tried only Knight Enchanter and Assassin and was pleased with both specs.

If TS's first playthrough was as warrior, I'd suggest trying Knight-Enchanter. It combines best of two worlds - you can go melee and kick dragons in the face, without taking any damage whatsoever, and fry enemies from afar with powerful spells. Also KE has a useful healing focus ability.

My personal preference is the Assassin DW rogue. Took me some time to get accustomed to the controls, but was worth it. From around level 15 my Quizzy became a Death goddess, one-hitting almost every enemy, going in stealth after each kill. The enemies die without even seeing what hit them! Corypheus died before he could spit his insults!

I like the Necromancer from a lore standpoint (Mortalitasi), they remind me of Jergal/Morr clerics and similar death cults.

S&S? I assume Knight Enchanter us as close to Arcane Warrior as we will get.

Knight Enchanter IMHO is the best, having toyed with all the Specialisations, whether it be on the Inquisitor or on the Companions.

It's not the KE's invincibility, it's that he can switch between Ranged and Melee at will during combat.  In addition to spells, he can use his staff (lower DPS, but it's there) plus his Soul Sword, which is technically a spell power, but has no cooldown and costs little mana, so it's like a regular attack.  Moreover, he gets a teleport move with Fade Step.  Ranged, Melee, Teleport, then the infinite Barriers not only make KE very powerful, but a lot of fun to play IMHO.

If Rogues could somehow switch between Dual Daggers and the Bow without having to re-spec, I would probably favour that more than KE.  But as it stands, not only is KE very powerful, but it's so fun because it's versatile, IMHO.

On my first Rogue playthrough I wanted Assassin but needed those Assassin leader knives or something, I got 1 ever. So went with Tempest. I'd say 'Haste' flask is a nice little bonus (as haste was practically removed from the game). One day I'll try again and go for Assassin. Still not sure how I will get those items though.

It's all about Knight Enchanter here, the ability to switch between range and melee keeps it entertaining for me, by adding a bit more versatility to my play style. It also doesn't hurt that they're pretty incincible, which really helps because I am essentially tactically useless.

Knight Enchanter are fun to play since you get to switch between close combat and long range, I did find that it makes the game way way too easy, my KE can solo a dragon on hard, she can be the last surviving member of a battle (tanked warriors fall before she does) and won't even need a potion.

Knight Enchanter is so broken it's not even funny XD

I liked playing DW Assassin though, she was a beast, my heavy hitter.

Assassin guild tokens are not that difficult to find. They are all located in Crestwood. Here's useful link with the guide on how to obtain the Assassin spec: http://dragonage.wik..._(Inquisition)

Knight Enchanter.

All higher levels characters are 'broken', in a way. Knight Enchanter might be able to solo dragons, but it takes a while. Artificers can solo dragons in under 30 seconds , Reavers in a minute or 2.

That kind of explains a lot then, first playthrough I did a lot of stuff in Crestwood, saved the town, freed the fort etc, closed all the rifts then left all before speaking to the specialisation people. I randomly went back and killed the dragon and that is where I got my 1 Guild Token but never again.

I'll do that next time. Cheers.

I would say:

Mage - Necromancer (I'm a big fan of both crowd control and damage, i think that Necro can do both really well)

Rogue - My favourite spec is Tempest due to FoL, but i must say that i actually like all of them.

Warrior - I didn't play as a warrior, but i controlled my warrior companions and i really liked S&S Reaver and S&S Champion.

Hm, probably knight enchanter for me. Rift mage didn't stand out enough for me.

Guardian was.. ok, nothing fancy and tempest was pretty good fun, although I exclusively used flask of fire.

I found Tempest very useful for a rogue on Nightmare.
