Ok so this just popped in my head a few days ago and was wondering. In Act2 after Anders's personal quest if he kills the mage girl he'll ask you if you want him to leave Kirkwall. If you say 'yes leave Kirkwall' does he still come back at the end to blow up the chantry? I considered doing this to see but just can't bring myself to get rid of him lol.

Yeah, he shows up again at the end. I don't know if the dialogue varies at all, but I imagine it's mostly the same.

He comes back for his big boom, yes. Hawke gets to ask a question related to his departure: "you've been lurking here all this time?" and Anders will reply that he came back because he had to intervene or something. For the rest it all plays out the same.

Part of the reason I hate him. You tell him to bugger off and he still comes back and ruins everything and murders loads of people.

From mischievous keeper of Ser Pounce-a-lot, to mass murderer, Anders' character arc was a mess, or just very very tragic.

I guess this is an oversight, but Anders is still clearly lurking about Kirkwall if you go to speak to Varric at some point after telling him to take a hike, since he comes into the Hanged Man and is chatting with him.

No matter what,  Anders will show up to blow up the chantry.
