On the PC, if you use Print Screen, the picture gets placed in the "My Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age Inquisition/Screenshots" folder.

Not sure if this goes for everyone, but for me running the game in regular full screen mode made the screenshots come out completely black.

However, it did work as intended if I switched to "Windowed Full Screen" mode. (This might make the game use more resources, so could lead to performance issues if you have an older computer?)

As yet I don't know of any commands/setting or mods that hides the UI, but once that is made it's also something I'd recommend using, unless there's dialogue you want to keep in to emphasize a scene..

On a more aesthetic and less technical note I also recommend considering lighting, angles and outfits if possible.

Good lighting and carefully chosen angles can do wonders for your picture, and if you have the bag space it might be worth holding on to some specific armor and weapons just for their looks.

Please feel free to give additional tips and ideas (like how to use the free-flying camera for example), including for the console versions of the game. :)

Pressing ^ once opens the console and double-tapping it closes is. Open it and type:

UI.DrawEnable 0

to disable all UI elements for a clear screenshot. If you wanna have it back, open the console again and type

UI.DrawEnable 1

In the same gaming session the game also remembers console commands. Up and down arrow keys should show them again without the need to retype them.

You can probably get some really cool action-shots this way. Pause in the middle of a fierce fight, position the tactical camera, disable the UI and press the PrintScreen button. :)

Get FRAPS for screenshots instead, IMO.

With some people, it causes performance issues, as a heads up. But if you can get it to work properly, it's more more reliable at getting screenshots, and has the option of saving as PNG files, which is nice.

Also records video, so you can always record a cutscene, then go back through it and find the frame you wanted to screencap.

Thanks for the tip with the DrawEnable console command, GODzilla. You can indeed take some pretty awesome combat pictures that way.

Pause with ctrl, open console, enter command to remove UI, close console.

Yeah, taccam (with pause) and no UI is almost perfect. Almost...if you use tools like the cheat engine with the free camera hack, pictures like this are the outcome:

Flycam for great combat screenshots and hiding UI...CheatEngine for ability to use armor in Skyhold...RadeonPro for SweetFX (Windows 8.1) and ability to take rapid-fire screenshots.
